I was otr for two years and I've driven an auto before and hated it. I decided to give these at least a year. I've been here a year and 5 months so far and have had all I can take. Its nice to be able to eat a sandwich or sip on my coffee in traffic but the con's outweigh the pros for me.

I applied to a smaller outfit. Only one truck in Jax, it'll be me and another guy slip seating until they send up a second truck and trailer. Then we'll both have our own.

They pay by the hour, all straight time, no OT. Even then I'll still be making more while working less than I am now. Full benefits paid by the company though, so that's one thing that drew me in. I took my drug test yesterday, next week I meet with my future boss then I'll give my notice where I work now.

Is Ploof still around? How about Sav-A-Stop in Orange Park it's right off the U.S. 295 right on 17 then another right on wells rd? I be surprised if they were still going. It wasn't such a bad operation, just didn't pay anything. Good to see you go up. Are you still hauling gas? Sounds like a place to stay as long as your other drivers is neat. Be cool, you know how it can be. Keep the truck like he has it for now and change it in a little while. Good luck.

I'm not sure if they're still around but I'll look next time I'm down that way. We deliver to a kangaroo on wells rd by the mall. I'll look for it next time I go by.

Yeah the guy I'll be sharing with will be the head driver, he moved up from Tampa to establish up here in Jax. He's wanting to work less so he'll be having me do the night shift and it'll be much more relaxed than it is now since I won't be in a rush all the time.

I'm looking forward to it. Plus they have nice equipment leased through peterbilt and almost new trailers.

I'm leaving eagle for more reasons than just the automatics but its one of the main reasons.

I do feel fortunate. But, karma may be paying me back this time.

    This is why...

The first job I got after school was hauling fuel to frac sites. I really liked that, but the company went bankrupt and shut down ops right out of the blue, about a week after Thanksgiving. This was a company that had been hauling fuel for 20+ years.

Their fleet was something like 30 bobtails and about 15 t/t. It was not a fly-by-night operation. Someone jacked up a multi-million dollar company. Last I heard, the cops showed up at the yard one day looking for the owner.

The second job was OK too. I latched on to a crude hauling job that paid well, but two of the Company's "veteran" crude haulers had major spills, two days apart, AT THE SAME WELL SITE. Needless to say they lost all their contracts.

I was out of work again, and now massaging my resume just to show that I had six months experience. A recruiter actually called me and asked my why I was doing so much job-hopping. I explained why, and still never heard from him again.

I am used to working for myself, so being taken down by things/people out of my control was totally pissing me off. I was seriously considering going back to my old sales job.

I went down with the ship twice in 5 1/2 months. It's about time I got a decent break. Let's see if this one can last for a while.

Good luck to you, hopefully third time is a charm. I've seen a few good size companies here go down like that when the kids took over. No one thought it could happen. Made for an interesting bankruptcy auction.
