Yea Arco hasn't been Arco for 15 years. It was BP and now Tesoro. All so cal terminals and refineries are Tesoro branded. Trucks still say Arco though. But hey you are still technically driving for an oil company, even though it's not a major like Exxon, shell, chevron, ConocoPhillips. But then again Arco back in the day wasn't a major either. I don't see things ever going back to how they were, in 50 years electric cars will be the norm.

LTL is the best trucking career there is in my opinion.
Drop and hooks at terminals, sleep in hotels, home every weekend if you want. Get paid .55-.62 CPM plus paid for drop and hook, fueling etc etc.
Some union LTL jobs pay for your health insurance and you get a pension.
All the info is out there.

    Here's one example:

This guy barely has any experience and he's getting .58 CPM 2500 miles a week plus paid for the extra things he does at Old Dominion. Plus home every night and off two days a week.

It's crazy you can make more money doing drop and hooks than pulling a bomb lol

And there's something to be said for carriers and the opportunities they provide. I had 2 years flatbed exp and got hired/trained by a fuel carrier, and even though I'm a new guy I have a solid seat, the schedule I want, occasional weekends off, and the best part, my partner and I break shift at a gas station 3 miles from my house. If I had to commute to south gate (arco) every day I would kill myself, even for six figures.

The reason I like hauling fuel is in my opinion it's easy money for the amount of work I do.

I knew I wouldn't be happy doing ltl work, and it's a huge bonus that I enjoy where I work.

My dispatcher asked me if I'd take a job at another fuel carrier doing the exact same thing but for $15k more a year, and I said no. I love where I work and I'll take less money to be happy vs more money doing something I'm not happy with

I didn't say there was no money in it as a company driver. Its just not what it used to be when you had the big major oil companies out there with there 4 day/week big bennies with pension and hourly pay gigs. A lot of these common carrier tanker outfits do pay by the trip no matter how many hours you put in at least around here now but then again those are the ones that hire with no tank experience and little driving exp. There are some who still pay hourly but very few I can see. Its great work and I always enjoyed doing it. Would love to see some companies like Sunoco step up there fleet again. I still see some of there company trucks on the road.

    That's good!

I agree with you on the rushing around, I'm usually always in a hurry. Only guys around here that get paid by the hour is pilot and a few keenan guys who are from Tampa so they get hourly since they are working out of a different terminal.

A lot of guys here want to be paid hourly but I hope it never happens, especially since my boss assured me it would never happen since our productivity would drop and it would probably cost us way too much money. We just have too many people that would milk it.

We even have a handful of guys who make $300-400/week after taxes because they act like we're paid by the hour. What takes them 6 hours only takes me 3.5-4

    That's why I don't care for hourly.

We don't have a top pay or anything, but you get experience pay the longer you work here.

The guy trained me had 20+ years experience and was averaging $1400-1800/week after taxes working 60-70 hours. That's pay by the load, 5 days a week, working 0000-1200
