I know dual pay rates (loaded vs unloaded) are common, especially in bulk haul, but it's always funny in a way.
From the driver's perspective, in snowy winter driving or windy conditions, running UNloaded sometimes should demand higher pay, not lower! lol
All that slippin/slidin'/rockin' in unloaded loads (tho wind rockin mainly affects vans, tankers not so much) can make for much more "uneasy" driving.

Hey drivers, I've been with A&R TRANSPORT for a few months now. I really appreciate this company, I'm out of the Baton Rouge, La Terminal and all the guys and gals are like a family. I mainly run PVC powder and polyethylene, and stick to regional routes during the winter and out in the System during the summer. WAY TOO COLD up north for this cajun during the winter. From what I hear every terminal is different from each other in terms of working atmosphere. I.E. Morris, il is the corporate headquarters so they are much more by the quidelines whereas Baton Rouge is laid Back. (BTW I'm a company driver) we are not forced dispatched in Baton Rouge, but like I said every terminal is different. The pay is fine with me, Its easy to get raises A&R.

Good to hear you are liking it. I run out of the Morris terminal and for the most part everyone is pretty easy going there as well. Everyone in dispatch is friendly. Its also convenient to have the rail yard at our terminal. I have not been to your terminal yet, but I talked to one owner operator from Baton Rouge when I was in Texas last week. He said he really liked it there as well. I would stay down south if I was you to. It is way to cold up here in Illinois right now!

    Hey EB&D,,
I'm a displaced former "red stick" fella and appreciate all the input you've given from the BR terminal. Right now I'm up in DMAX66's neck of the woods.
I'm curious how A&R pay rates differ between north & south (LA vs IL). I drove a dump and a concrete mixer down in BR years ago where at the time (and still now) I'd be making almost half of what typically pay is, for drivers up here. I know that driving jobs in the south typically pay less than most northern hubs. Am I wrong, has it changed?

Just curious, as I'd like to move back south, but wanting to still keep a respectable wage I hesitate to ask income questions, as I feel they are personal, therefore I'm not offended if you keep dollar figures vague. Any info is appreciated.

Hey sorry it took awhile to reply, the pay is the same across all terminals. There's multiple levels of pay dependent on you achieve the requirements. Further info on the pay scale is on A&R's website. As for the per year amount it widely varies due to each driver is different in the amount they are willing to run.

Ive never worked for A+R But I have towed their trucks before. Everyone at the plant in Springfield Ma was very cool to deal with, considered putting in an app but never did

All the accessorial and orientation pays and bonuses seem better than average, and I get a feeling the company treats its drivers very well. Is it all dry bulk or do they do liquids as well?
