There are alot of people asking questions about Schneider Bulk training process. I am going to give you a day by day recap of the training in Houston that I have recieved the past 2 weeks. They have a very good program and I enjoyed it, though there are times it gets very boring.

In Houston you will stay in the Red Roof Inn at Federal Rd off I-10, not the best place but not the worst I have been in. The beds were pretty comfortable though. There are alot of Restaraunts near you as well as a Fiesta Supermarket. The motel has breakfast, boiled eggs, yogurt, waffles, cereal, etc... There is also a Dennys next door. Lunch is provided daily, it is always Quiznos, you will hate quiznos by the time this is over. You will be shuttled back and forth daily between the motel and the training facility but the Vans are not allowed to be used for anything else. If you can bring your own vehicle then do that, you will thank me for this advice.

You will be in one of 2 classes Experienced or ADTC (Inexperienced). Experienced is Mon - Sunday, ADTC is Mon - the following Saturday.

Day 1: This is a boring day. You will check in and start doing paperwork. Med exams, drug testing and your Physical Agility Test. Once you have finished all of this you will do some tests and watch videos on the computers that are provided. You will be done between 1430 and 1630. This is where having your own vehicle could come in handy.

Day 2 - 4: The second day you will start outside climbing on top of a bulk trailer and walking from the to the end then to the far end and back down. They will issue a hard hat with faceshield, safety glasses and gloves. The classroom will be mostly videos followed by tests (All open book). Safety, Safety, Safety, this is going to get drilled into your head. Lets not forget about the " Schneider Song", This will get stuck in your head....Enjoy, Check out Youtube.

Day 5 & 6: Both of these days will be outside, Hands On. You will be off loading a trailer. with pump and with air. Everything you do will have a play by play guide that is given to you and again everything is open book. This is graded, the first time through you will be fully coached the 3rd time is all you and each time through is "graded".

Day 7: This is the first day driving, mt van trailer. You will most likely be treated like a child today. There are some instructors there that will act as if you have never driven on a public roadway your entire life. Frustrating does not begin to describe this but tomorrow it gets better.

Day 8: Driving in the morning or afternoon, it depends on your instructor. You will have a half day of driving and a half day of classroom/labs (slow maneuvers)

Day 9: Same as the day before but this is considered the QRT which means you will be graded on your driving on a 0 - 25 scale, 25 being very bad. This is also the first day with an mt tank.

Day 10 & 11: Same as the previous 2 days but you will be pulling a loaded trailer. Some people are bothered by the surge, I personally loved it.

Day 12: Pretty much the same as before but you will be tested again today. The test today will be on Slow Manuevers, backing, coupling and uncoupling, pre trip, post trip, 4point and pulling and controlling a loaded tank. If everything goes well you will be issued the rest of your gear and "graduate". You will find out who your TE will be and what you will need to do to meet up with them.

Day 13: The instructors will most likely set up an "obstacle course" more like tight maneuvers and backing. This will probably be a short day.

This is where I am at. I starting with my TE at the Houston OC tomorrow morning. I will update this as I go along.
I may have missed a couple of things, if so I'm sorry. This is pretty close though.

Well, I am 4 days into the training with a TE and have already been through 1 TE. He made some poor decisions while there were 2 "students" in his truck and some higher ups moved us both to different trainers. Basically he said this is how Schneider wants you to do things and this is how I want you to do things, Schneider wants things done their way and thats fine they sign the checks. Fun times though. My 2nd TE is very good and looks like I will be doing my SQTs next week, sometime before Wednesday. I am told that once the SQTs are complete I will go home for 3 to 4 days while they find me a truck.

push/pull a bar, carry weight across the room with a heart monitor, step up and down a small step ladder for minutes with heart monitor, walk a cat walk. Basically they are looking at your heart rate, if its too high you are out.

    They set him up.

With 2 witnesses, he couldn't deny saying that.

Be that as it may. He was correct, at a terminal in training, "It's A Perfect World".

Out in the real-world, some things are different.
