New to the truck business, looking into tanker. Can anyone advise: Looking at CTL or Schnider tanker division. Which one is better for a new driver with ambitions of becoming a O/O in the future?

Look into Superior Carriers in Savannah as well. They hire a few students from select big truck driving schools. Several threads here about students starting with them:

Just talked to the recruiter for the superior carrier, my school is not in their list, but because my course was 186 hours long and the school is approved from the VA, she is going to send the school information to the company board members to see if they can add the school to their approved school list. Mary was her name, and she is a very nice and professional person to talk to. Hopefully, they will consider my request. If so this will not only open the doors for myself, but also to all the other students that graduated from that school. She said if I don't get a call within a week, to call her back. Thanks, WSYROB for the information and keep your fingers crossed.

It wouldn't hurt to give the terminal manager a call as well. He makes the call on who gets hired and will want a face to face eventually anyway. Might even know the school and can help get it approved from that direction as well. My TM and a VP of training actually came out to the school and took me and another driver out to lunch when I got into trucking 7 years ago.

i will do that, we had few companies come to the school too, Stevens, TMC, and Werner came to the school and gave us a briefing. They bought pizza and cola for us at lunch time. I will definitely call Savannah terminal. I saw the number on the webpage. Thanks.

Tidewater Transit has a terminal in Savannah. I parked there last night. lol You might check with them. They run Volvo flat top sleepers. Spoke to one of the drivers out of that terminal. He said they're home most nights, rarely out more than one night at a time if gone overnight. Terminal manager's name is Alan.
I drive for Tidewater, out of the Decatur, AL terminal. Whenever I make a run to the port in Garden City, I always park at our terminal in Savannah.Deliov Thanks this. -

Schneider is good for new drivers.Get experience(1 year)then u can go anywhere.Wouldn't advise O/O with schneider though.
iceroadtruckermike Thanks this. -
This is the one reason I would go with Schneider, the experience and because they work with O/O. I have fill an application with Tidewater, just waiting for them to call me, but if they do not call me this week I might just go with Schneider. I left CDL in Feb, just last week finished my HME, and still waiting for the TWIC. TWT will not take me until I get the TWIC. Schneider will at least start the process with orientation and training.
