I appreciate the comeback I was hoping the hourly rate would be better than Chicagoland prevailing wage for dump truck which is 36.20 hr. since the cost of living is higher there.

$12-$15 per hour. There is money in LTL, food service, and petroleum. Not $36 per hour though, not even close. Keep in mind SoCal faces downward pressure on wages for unskilled work due to "certain reasons", where as Chicago is a bit further from the southern border...

Indeed $22 an hour is not much in california and the fact 22 million mexicans live in so cal does have an effect on wages.

Yep for 22/hr to work you need overtime pay and work 60+ hours per week. That what I'm doing. 5 days 12-14 hours then 2-3 days off. Houses in my city cost 600-700k. It's hard to "live the dream" down here as a single income even making 80k... And that's without kids...

It depends, everything is a compromise. I choose to work for lower pay because my commute is 3 miles. I choose to live in so cal because I like it here, so it's worth it even though I can't afford a house and need roommates. I've seen on HGTV the kind of mansions you can get for $200k in Atlanta but at the end of the day you couldn't pay me enough to move there.
