| Well it happened to me in a rest area in Nebraska and that's why I mouth about it a lot.You haven't really lived until you are walking out the door watching/hearing something like that happen and then have to make the phone call to an old 0/0 that thinks more of his truck than he does his wife. Not pleasant in any way.I've never been a believer in accidents....Something CAUSES something to happen.Stupidity and a green driver caused that one.

I understand there are accidents,BUT what I meant was...Something causes it that is avoidable in some way...So if it is avoidable, can it really be called an accident??? A truck manufacturer scrimps on bolts for the stearing box on their trucks...5 years later a driver is running 45 mph in a 50 mph zone, hits a bump just right, bolts shear and he veers across the yellow line and hits a car head on killing that driver...That is an avoidable circumstance and although the trucker and the 4 wheeler driver had no blame in it,it wasn't really an accident because of what the truck manufacturer did with the cheap bolts.Or that's what Oprah say's or Maury or one of those folks.....I'VE BEEN HOME SO LONG I'M STUCK IN DAYTIME TV HELL!!!!!! ![]()

| A professional truck driver is just that a professional. He is the one you see and you wish that you could be more like him in the way he does his job, dresses or conducts himself. He is the one that parks his truck straight in a parking spot, would never think about parking his truck on the end of the fuel island (drivers would think he was lazy), his truck is clean on the inside and out, due to out side forces his load may not be on time but he will inform his company he is late and why, he helps his fellow drivers when they are in need, he knows when to let his fellow drivers learn by their mistakes, he is truthful and honest at all times, he is legal at all times and he knows that he is no better then any other driver on the road but he just works harder at being the best. Think you professional driver for setting the standards high and may we all try to live by those standards. From the Wikipedia: Therefore it would be appropriate to state that a 'true' professional must be proficient in all criteria for the field of work they are practicing professionally in. Criteria include following:

I'm like everyone else,I've been to broke to pay attention and ain't to far off from it now,but there's no use to whine about it AND I was never broke because I was letting a ratty company break me and use me like a borrowed mule.....DON'T WORK FOR CHEAP MONEY AND THEN NONE OF US WILL HAVE TO!!!...I've broke myself through stupidity(and if I live much longer,I'll do it again, over and over.)...I'd rather pick cans up beside the road for making money for myself than work for one of the big companys....I'd be independent AND make about the same money. The big companies peeing on these greenhorns and telling them it's raining is where the true lack of backbone in the industry lies.It lies inside the cab of a Swift truck or a USXpress truck etc etc......I have nothing at all against those drivers and I wish them the best of luck, but that's my opinion on the deal and I'm unbendable on it.....come on beck...beep

The lack of back bone in the trucking industry is not a company driver but the o/o failing to run their business like a business. Running their trucks when they have no clue about their cost per mile. Hauling cheap freight that even a large carrier would not haul that cheap. Hauling for brokers or company that just gives them a part of their fuel surcharge. Getting speeding tickets and paying for them out of their own pocket -this one is just plain stupid. Running 80 mph and wasting fuel. These o/o don't have a back bone because they will not learn about operating a business, try to impress their broker or company by running illegal or thinking that a broker is your friend and run a cheap load and he will take care of you later. If a o/o is going broke then it is their own fault and not a company driver, broker or fuel prices. Know what your cost per mile is and never let your average income be less then that. Yes, I was a o/o back in the eighties and I know what I speak of. I bring home more money by being a company driver. And I don't work cheap as company either. To all of the professional o/o god bless and keep up the good job. Oh, yes, a tree that fails to bend in a storm will be the first to fall.
