Was told today I'M scheduled for the 14th. Very congested in the yard, did some classwork, doing more tue, wed. Was told the new guys will be in the classroom next week for permit classes. That should make it better for me next week to get extra work in the yard.

Hi, BigDaddyJollyRob was thinking of going the same route
as you. I am located outside of Boston and I am looking at Teamsters local 25 the say they have a free school as long as you are a member. Just wanted to know what you paid to get yourself set up and if you would recommend this approach? Thanks for any help.

I paid $500 out of the $4000 bill due to WIA program. If your already a teamster it would cost you $1000 at the local 251 school. The guys I've learned from have all passed there road test, I'm alittle salty right now due to the new class being large and invading the limited space.I go for my road test next week and yard time is getting to be a cluster f#$%. If you can get it for free or $1000 go for it and dont wait. It seems as a current teamsters it takes alittle longer to get in so ACT KNOW.

I imagine it will get even more hectis with guys worried about the new freight job classifications...

the whole "utility man" position will require more and more dock guys to get their CDL's

Did class work all day, Log books and hours of service. It was a much better day.Weather wasnt good (i was inside ) and not as crowded. Was able to talk with some of the new guys and told them to hang in there. We all get stressed when its time to go and they're trying to filter in a new class. I told them the too would sound just like me in a few weeks when the next class starts in march. Overall they are a great group of guys and are working hard and listening. I help the ones that want to the help, if they dont want it thats cool too. Wish me luck for next week.I'll keep you guys posted.

Because I chose the teamsters training academy I'm being rejected for job offers. They say its not an approved school. The school is 320 hrs and accepted by the Workforce Investment Act(government sponsored and state certified). Because I'm trained on PUPS 28 ft CFI/conway truckload said people don't pass there 1 wk orientation with a 48 or 53 ft trailer. I told them I would pay for prior training before going to orientation,No you'll need 3mo otr with another carrier. CRETE, I applied online and did employment verification they never got back to me so I called and asked the status. They said application denied because I didn't go to an approved school and would need 5mo OTR then could be hired. This leaves me with the first company I looked at (MILLIS) and was smart enough yesterday to CYA and secure my spot for 03/03/08. I will spend the rest of my time before my road test looking for more options.
I have some other local jobs I'm going to contact by next week. I already spoke with Conway Freight and will find the rest of the LTL's in this area.
I now understand why people end up at Swift,Werner,CR england, SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE. I WILL NOT WORK FOR CR ENGLAND. I've given Swift a call for the NorthEast and have two former classmates going to orientation next week.I'll see what the have to say.

I feel ya big d, they should give you a cup (the kind that protects your junk)when you get your CDL. BECAUSE YOUR GONNA NEED IT WHEN FILLING OUT APPS. I didnt know I was gonna get kicked as much as i have. I didnt want to go to work for one of these low pay jobs. But you relise you cant be to picky when the bills are coming .But the pup trailer is a new one the school cant just say you have been using 45s ? Well I leave Sunday for CFI . I will start a post when I get goin down there. Keep your head up push on nail that test...Good luck will stay in touch tell gene to stay out of your way you got work to do..Later
