I told them I would pay for prior training before going to orientation,No you'll need 3mo otr with another carrier. CRETE, I applied online and did employment verification they never got back to me so I called and asked the status. They said application denied because I didn't go to an approved school and would need 5mo OTR then could be hired. This leaves me with the first company I looked at (MILLIS) and was smart enough yesterday to CYA and secure my spot for 03/03/08. I will spend the rest of my time before my road test looking for more options.
I have some other local jobs I'm going to contact by next week. I already spoke with Conway Freight and will find the rest of the LTL's in this area.
I now understand why people end up at Swift,Werner,CR england, SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE. I WILL NOT WORK FOR CR ENGLAND. I've given Swift a call for the NorthEast and have two former classmates going to orientation next week.I'll see what the have to say.

Did not the Teamsters have all general types of equipment in their yard? When I went through years ago, I became a pest and wouldn't leave until I got my hands on every piece of equipment in the yard.

You never know when that might come in handy...hang in there Big D and be persistent

No they don't. They only have 28 ft. Hopefully I'll get my doubles training Next week before the road test. I'm filling out an app at ABF they came in to see us plus I talked to the TM before hand. Conway freight told me to come see them after road test and I take my dbl and hazmat. No promises but come down.

Good day today. Cold & flurries spent a lot of time on sight side then went on the road. Went onto the highway and back, down to the railroad tracks, did breakdown procedure and then back to the yard. Did blind side then help a friend with Air break test. I need to get through the weekend and then prepare for next week.

Helped out fellow classmates. They're starting to line up for road test now. I told everyone if the need help I'll help them out on tuesday but wednesday I'm going to be in my zone and focused. Doing all maneuvers and scoring them, then pre trip and air break test.

I'm running into problems getting hired due to training on 28fts trailers. There are no union jobs open in my area.I will apply to all of them. I've applied to alot of OTR companies and I'm being turned down. Do you have any info on Prime company drivers. My brother in law is looking for me as well and as soon as something opens up at his job(union) I'm there. As for now I'm planning on my first choice of Millis and now looking at PrimeInc. They can get me in on the 25th of feb before my unemployment runs out. But I need more research on prime inc. I just find lease info and I wont lease.

BigDaddyJollyRob,

I hope everything turns out for the best. I am not suprised that there are no union openings in your area. Are you? I don't mean that as an insult either so please don't take it that way. It just proves that good companies don't have trouble keeping drivers. Please put your app's in with all of them and keep your eyes and ears open in case they are in need of drivers. Try to check in with the manager or representative at least once a month to let them know you are still interested.

I won't even comment on 99% of the OTR companies to you. I think you know what the answer will be.

Drive safe

I will. My plan is to apply to everyone and hope to get lucky. If not get the experience then come home local or keep an eye on lj kennedy I heard they're union. If I get with a good OTR then I'll ride that out. Right now having a hard time getting in the door because of the school(pups) and living in Rhode Island.
