Roadway Change Of Operations

The posting has been put up - the next change will effect most of us who run out of breakbulks...

according to the next change -

80% of our runs will be meet and turn.

Our terminal will be losing 7 drivers - but picking up 3 or 4 "utility" men.

Most terminals will be adding utils' and loosing a few road spots.

Satellite terminals will no longer run bid men out of micro domiciles.

other details are cloudy - will be interesting to see what and how the change will be applied.

I applied for a dock position at the nearest Roadway location, hoping if I could land it, I might be able to work into a driver spot. Probably not likely now.

I assume your nearest location is a PnD and not a breakbulk...

if that is the case try and hire on as a combo worker (if offered)

the change is just a "change" of ops - we have a couple a year when the economy gets rough. does not mean anything except they are adjusting our biz plan to better meet needs of customers and our own financial needs...

times may be rough - but we still made close to 234 million in profit for 2007.

it is a strong company - lots of leverage on our future...

but as always - we "are" for sale (who is not?) - and I expect new owners in the coming year...

(will not change anything except the parent company name)

yellow bought us in 2003 or 2004 - and has used us dry to buffer their own loses... - ( but we still plug away.)

Well I'll keep checking. They used to have a facility 2 miles from where I live, but now the 2 closest ones are 45 minutes south east and an hour north east. Knew a couple of old guys who retired from Roadway with no complaints.

Forbidden Exclamation

just a few more weeks until the change goes into effect.

I think everyone is anxious -

drivers are unsure
dock workers are worried about utility positions
dispatchers/coordinators will have a ton more to do

about the only thing that will remain constant is our customer base.

I hope we can keep this change as seamless as possible so none of our customers have to second guess their decision.

on a brighter note - I for one am looking forward to turning the house every night (well 9 out of 10 times)...

with every contract / change we get - this job turns my life a little more towards the "normal".

I am still laid-off on the road board, meanwhile they are hiring drivers all over the country.
