Can you run your truck for $1.12 a mile ?

Not me but some oneMy numbers for 2007 (3 trucks)

else claims to run for $1.12 a mile and pocket over $109,000.00 on his 3 trucks.....I say the numbers are bull.............................................. ...

I can't and won't. Fuel right now is close to $1.00 a mile. How could you pay for truck payments, maintenance, insurance, and eat? $.12 is not even close, that's at 5,000 miles!

the 1.12 is the freight rate


on top of that will be a fuell surcharge - which right now is just about .58


so you would have 1.70 going to the truck...



a truck getting 5 miles per gallon would cost 80+ cents a mile to run

leaving 90 cents in your gain -

minus truck expenses and taxes - you could run a truck at make 29 - 45K a year with it.

These figures may be true with 0% deadhead. With escalating costs deadheading becomes a bigger financial burden.

and the guys that do not are usually the ones who convince themselves to stick with some scumbag outfit...


there are companies to lease on to that pay 100% surcharge

and as a former indy - with my own authority - I can tell you the surcharge is factored into any and all freight bills.

true - but frugal running - and building a customer base and relationships with direct brokers is the best way to combat this.
