As for grocery stores, purchasing power and marketing arguably play a larger part on the operating ratio than payroll/benefits costs do. Take grocery stores in southern wisconsin for example. The most dominant grocery stores are roundy's stores (Pick'n'Save, Copps, and others), and they are the only grocery stores I know of that have union warehousemen, union drivers, and union store workers. The rest of the stores have union warehouses, and non-union storeworkers, or are non-union alltogether. Why are roundy's stores the best? They have more purchasing power, and their "chairman bob" marketing campaign stays in your head. When roundy's decimated the competition (piggly wiggly, kohls, and others) did they thank the union workers for keeping the operation running? Hell no. If roundy's loses business to any of the non union grocers, will the union get blamed for it? You can bet your bottom dollar on it...

| my northeast attitude is why people hate driving up there? YOU hate driving up here because all the union guys who drive safe instead if speeding and cutting people off in their " home on wheels" make more then you EVER will. You are just another redneck wanting the "big mile runs.".......well, with the hours of service, and your companies cutting how fast your truck will go, GET USED TO HOW MUCH YOU MAKE, you will never make any more that what you do now, because you don't have any way to bargain with your company, you kiss ### and beg. and btw, Teamster membership is up from last year, and we are 1.4 million strong, we aren't going down anytime soon. so have fun talking to your kid on the phone for 7 days straight, it seems like the smart thing to do would be make good money, have good benefits, AND go home to see them. But thats ok, if it were not for stupid people like you, I wouldn't realize that i have a GOOD job, and i dont have to live in a truck like you. |

I have seen them driving in the far left lane where trucks are not allowed and driving 20 mph over the posted speed limit and then turning on the blinker and just starting over cutting off cars to make an exit like they were in a car. Really a safe driver. By the way, I did call the company and lodge a complaint. |
