Unfortuneatly there are many concessions on this contract and language that has been removed, it is amazing to me that the union could even present this to us it gives back about 25 years of hard negotitions, has to many financial give backs and leaves the companies with an opening to have a discharge stand at the commitee.
Some key pionts;

3 year contract pay freeze first 2 years then $.40 an hour on year 3, if you factor that in with the current 5 year contract that also had a 2 year freeze that would be a $.2125 an hour raise per year for 8 years.

Gives the company the right to keep reprimands for minor damages in your file and to be able to use them at the comittee was for only 6 months this contract gives them 2 years

Broadens the use of "New Bussiness" and makes it much easier for the companies to label freight as such which means you will be hauling these loads at 1/2 rate and alot more of them.

Gives the companies the right to keep you out and on the road for 5 differant legs before they have to head you back home that mean much more motel time and much less home time.

I could go on and on but for me its a NO vote I don't beleive you should ever back up in the hard fought language, there is ways to help the companies during these hard time with out giving everything up

Carhaul members attending local union meetings this past weekend voiced nearly unanimous support for the tentative agreement, including a 183-2 vote to recommend the agreement at Local 299, the largest carhaul local union in the United States.

“From Local 299 in Detroit, to Local 449 in Buffalo, to Local 25 in Boston, our members are overwhelmingly in support of the tentative agreement and the supplements,” said Fred Zuckerman, Director of the Teamsters Carhaul Division. “Once the members hear the details and get their questions answered, they have a better understanding of the issues. These have been excellent meetings.”

It is amazing to me how hard our own people are pushing this new contract. I have direct knowledge of this so called vote from Local #299 Detriot, first there was never a vote taken to endorse this contract to the contrary the Local was about 90% against the terrible contract. The only vote that was taken was according to the Local's rules when any meeting is to be ended there must be a vote taken and majority yes vote to end a meeting. The 183 to 2 vote was to end the meeting and 2 no votes was because 2 Cassen's driver were still not clear on Art 48. [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. stop spreading un true propaganda on this contract. Why are you trying to sell us this at this level. VOTE NO !!!!

I understand that there is alot of controversy and anger over the proposal. But I think that the Teamsters leadership is trying to save jobs. The old union ways of inflexibility are making union companies struggle to compete in certain areas. I guess that those affected have to look at the costs of voting yes as opposed to the costs of voting no. If it will save your good job, you have to consider it. I know that there are tough choices being presented. I hope it all works out for everyone.

Merge Stay Alert

I understand your thinking - and agree -

however once the contract was signed (our national master freight) - the companies went in a different direction and unveiled plans to boost areas of the contract that were downplayed when asked about during negotiations.

what we are looking at now is fewer teamster jobs - and a TON of OTR style non union help to run our rail shuttles and mainline frieght...

the International sold the contract as a great deal - but in the long run it will cost jobs...

My fear is that the same kind of wrangling is happening to the carhaulers...

be alert - and fight on any point that can be exploited and abused.
