Actually, that's not true... I spoke to the union rep here in Phx. and he told me you gotta get a job at a company first, then apply. He also said there won't be new driver jobs here for at least 5 years. My thinking was, join the union and have a better shot... but no, they won't take your dues til you get a job.

If you look at my "sticky"

you will see that I give an outline about some of this.

I think 5 years is a little pessimistic on that reps part - but I know it will be at least a year before we hire again out this way.

but the process is as follows

hire on with a Union company (just like any other trucking company)...

go through company and union orientation

start driving...

in about a month to 90 days you will pay initiation dues
(100 bucks +/-)...

after that you pay between 40 and 65 bucks a month depending on what you earn and job classification.

Chicago is one of the best places to get a teamster gig right now, to be honest. The big names that come to mind are Yellow (Chi Ridge) and ABF (South Chi Hts). Other than that, there's a lot of smaller companies to go to..

edit: UPS too, they're hiring all over the chicago area...

a new truck driver, probably 24-25 years old, backs into dock at a union company. it takes an hour or 2 to get loaded when he can clearly see workers available to load his truck right away. new driver starts getting angry because he is in a hurry and he only makes 25 cpm, while the dock workers are makeing 20 bucks and hour. new driver starts thinking....now i see whats wrong with this economy ! its the lazy, overpaid, underworked, union employee's in the united states. and now the new tuck driver gets on his laptop while sitting in the flying J truckstop and bashes unions because he hates his miserable life...hey son...get a life !

Those union dock workers treat us union drivers the same. However, we are not frantic because we getting paid to 'put up with' these people. Its a great attitude adjuster to be paid while being treated unfairly vs not earning anything in the same circumstance. Either way it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth!

JolliRoger, if you have something constructive to add to the discussion then by all means post it, if all you have to post is drivel like this, then it's best you don't post it because I can assure you that if this keeps up YOU will get a vacation from this site.

The bashing and #### slinging in this forum is going to stop one way or another.
I am glade to hear you are going to stop the bashing, and #### slinging. I hope this means you are going to stop the smart ##### trouble makers that like to hide behind their snide remarks when attacking someone because they don't like was being said.

It is one thing to have a constructive response and completely different to have to put up with a wise guy!

I look forward to seeing how this pans out.
