I was brought up that you get paid for what you do...
I think if the economy keeps going on the course that it is now..
Unions might end up being the thing of the past

Good point. Its up to them if they want to work with the companys are not how long they might last.If a union or non union company goes belly up there will be no more big pay checks.A lot have started the cut backs and lay offs all ready.

so is this why you guys love your union?

you guys are getting way off track and topic -

the "haters" have their thread (why I hate unions)

as for getting paid to do "nothing"

I am glad some of you are willing to be away from home "for free" for days on end.

For free?My rates on O.D. Loads covers all time from home which is very little. You must be living in dream land. You dont think your jobs can be taken or cut Well maybe you should go back a few years I think it was Squaw Transit in Dallas.Closed up and later I seen their signs on lease trucks. The first of many.
And I dont hate unions. But you might if they cause your company to go belly up or your 401K disapears.

Maverick is an option - not too bad of a company either (from what I hear) - if you realllllly want to stay union you may wish to look locally for freight jobs...

we were hiring yard guys and local cartage in st louis (fenton) not long ago

you may want to go to your local and eyeball what they have.

or fill an app. out #

more info there - and at the internationals site than I care to mention...

we are hiring local cartage in Cincinnati right now - road guys (like me) have first choice of a city job - but they will be hiring many from outside the company in the next month.

local cartage pays 22-24 an hour and time an a half after 8 hours

(12 hour day = 8 X 24 = 192 and 4 hours overtime = 144 for about $338 bucks a day - X a 4 day week = $1352) not bad for having 3 full days off a week.

home every night - relaxed/safe pace - great bennies (all paid) awesome 401k - and a vested pension after 5 years.

take a peek and look to see what stl. is doing

Nope not off track at all here..I have seen the attiutudes of union workers and they tink they do not stink at all and expect something for nothing..My opinion from what I have seen over the years..

I can see where you are coming from on this point. I have seen this in some people. Most people that I have seen though are grateful that the "union" company has given them a job at which they can make a living off of. I for one am a person that will do the best that I can at the job while I can still work for them. Me personally, I do not think that the company "owes" me anything. They gave me a chance, they hired me. I am grateful for that. To some people job loyalty means nothing. To me it means everything.

By the way, my free days are still paid. I just went to detriot for the cold weather and got paid for 117 hours. I only really worked about 80 hours in the last 8 days with one day off.
