To us its very beneficial. I've called a REP more than once on many issues i've ran into. They will assist you on your future planning and help you analyze your GOALS and plan.

If you happen to want a true coach in your corner this is the group of people you want. I havent talked to 1 person their that wasnt just as concerned over my issues as i was.

From what I see Wiseone is a OOIDA supporter as well.
Im telling you from exp, This is a good thing for us all.

All the best,
Matt

Thumbs down OOIDA

We use to be happy with the ooida up till the other day when they when they sided with a company over us. Just because the company was an ooida member too doesn't make them better than a member. The company decieved us and that was wrong. The contract wasn't signed and the ooida seen that and still sided with the company. They should get updated on all the laws in different states if they are going to have members in different states.

I agree, I am fed up with them. I have repeatedly tried to have our sites join to help each other and they won't even give a long-time member the time of day. I, too, have dropped my membership with them. They COULD do so much more if we all worked together, but they simply won't...I don't know why, sigh.

I dropped my membership after the first year. The only thing they seemed interested in was me paying my dues. After I did not renew my dues, they cancelled the free magazine.

When I tried to use their services for when I was starting my own authority, they were to busy to return the call for 3 weeks.

Recently, they were party to the recent hours of service court case back in July, when the hours were thrown out.

I have little respect for them.

I was an ooida member for 7 years - good organization -

nothing bad to say - they kept me informed of issues and topics...

and that is where it ends...

they are NOT a union.

they have very small fangs when it comes to getting results and influencing companies

As a newbie, fill me in... ATA primarily represents the trucking companies, not necessarily the drivers; and OOIDA primarily represents O/O, but perhaps not as powerful as they could/should. Is this correct? Are there other driver organizations?

How can drivers -- O/O and company -- help to make changes that are beneficial? For instance, if one of the primary driver concerns is the lack of truck parking (and the resulting HOS issues), then how should drivers address this issue for realistic changes?

I'm glad this topic was brought up again. I was thinking of joining soon. If they're not playing by the book, then I won't waste my time.
