Forbidden Exclamation Why should I join? OOIDA

While I support the group and what they stand for. Just not with my money at this time. I have to wonder....where are they on major issues?

One particular issue, the new HOS, and the safe implementation of said HOS.

I've seen article after article regarding what the group is doing to get things "fixed". But I have yet to see one article regarding the group going to any State or Federal Agency.....lobbying for more and larger rest areas.

Ohhhh, I've seen the articles from the NATSO whinning about the lose of revenue, if there were more rest areas. None of them included a LOUD voice from OOIDA citing the need for the ability to comply with Federal laws regarding HOS.

100% Compliance is possible in every state. If the States would expand the needed parking areas to accomodate more trucks. Yet I've seen no efforts in this area.

Please correct me if I am wrong. And while you at it, please provide links. Otherwise, it's we said, they said.

Thanks for the comeback.

I have to laugh though. My State & Locals reps break into a cold sweat when they see me coming. Vocal doesn't even start to describe me with them. Fortunately, I count some of them as friends. Most have learned not to even try the fence straddling approach.

I suspect the others are contemplating hiring a hit man.

OOIDA is the only voice we have. ATA is soundly against the individual driver, and wholly support the companies that employ us.

OOIDA stands against speed limiters, against split speed limits, for "hot fuel" regulations, etc.

even if you're a company driver, it's the best investment you can make, 154k members and growing, let's get it to a million, and the ATA and congress will bow at our feet!!!!

They are not perfect, and while they may not be able to take care of individual situations for drivers, they are the ONLY voice that truckers have as a whole. Without the OOIDA keeping the many members they have informed on the issues that relate to drivers, I can't imagine how separated from each other we would be.

I would suggest signing up for a year and giving seeing first hand what they are about.

Sign Up For OOIDA. I, for one, have given up on working with OOIDA. But, I still support them (in mind). Use the member number on that page to get your first year discount. (It is NOT my number, it is a friend's). Thanks!

We've been with OOIDA for years. No ther're not perfect but go to their sight OOIDA.COM and read the LANDLINE for all new drivers and old ones for that matter it is one of the best sites to keep current on laws and changes. One of the things i like is the free mag. is not all advertisements and recruiting. also I get e mail updates on bills comming up. and yes my gov., rep and anybody in govornment knows who I am and what we do for a living and where we stand on issues. Since I don't own HUNT, SWIFT or any other rippoff co. you really don't want to get me started on the ATA. They've sold us out jockeying for favor in this NAFTA.
Please just check out OOIDA's site and you can call their legal or complience dept. with all kinds of queations.

What good is OOIDA?

While I agree that OOIDA should be lobbying for more and larger rest areas, the organization has been fighting hard on many other issues of concern to (probably) most drivers. Hot fuel, tolls, split speed limits, Mexican trucks, contractual malfeasance, and the selling-out of America's infrastructure come to my mind immediately. OOIDA might have some shortcomings, but, in my opinion, it has been doing a lot of good for the trucking community in general.
