| Those are some good numbers, brother. Personally, I'm in the $70's per year and the 50's for hours per week and that's with one year of seniority. Not to mention the company pays for my health insurance and pension. I bet you can say the same.

yep - all paid bennys... National freight contract works out pretty well. the new one being worked on now has concessions - but we should gain pretty good ground on pay... word on the street is we will go 1.5 cent a mile per year increase to bring us up to 64 cpm at the end of 5 years. the only thing that makes me cringe is the idea of losing job classifications.

knighton5, It's been over a week since I asked for your information. Have you been around or on the road? I am sure there are a lot of drivers who would like to know about the company that you work for. Please post when you can. Drive safe

respond to knighten5 i'm not an expirienced computer operator. so my response may not be showing up in the correct screen. i did reply with lengthy response previously. i am temporarily retired due to a series of work related injuries so i am not leased to anyone presently. also, i do not of any companies hiring on union o/o at this time. too bad because it was a great way to work. you had medical/hospitalization/retirement employer paid. worker's was comp provided. permits paid, mileage taxes paid, cargo insurance paid, heavy duty use tax paid, required tolls paid. it was a two pay check system. for your driving you recieved an employee check. it was 26% of billing gross. therefore employer paid 1/2 ss and medicare deduction + withholding taxes were withheld. then you recieved another 43% for power unit and 10% for your trailer that was your 1099. the nearly 25 years i was a union o/o the union driver pay supported the family and the 1099 monies supported the equipment. i alway drove new tractors and trailers. never any problems making truck payments or affording fuel, maintenance, etc. during both of my injuries that required hospitalization (13 days 2,200 miles from home) all hospital/doctors bills and ambulance services, transportation home, and weekly wage benefitwere paid by worker's comp. another valuable advantage of uion o/o was no forced dispatch. you went home when you wanted, developed your own load system, absolutely no dispatcher telling you when, where, or how to do it! it was all your call! oh forgot all this cost me $38.00 p/month dues. my last few months before i had to quit driving i was averaging $1.21 c/p to the truck for all odometer miles traveled and i was not running that hard because of my injury. many companies at one time had these union o/o agreements. such as crst, jones, dallas-mavis, ranger, yellow freight, roadway, cf, abf, mason-dixon, mclean, chemical-leamon, matlack, manfreidi, and dozens and dozens more. what happened? de-regulation and the growth of the industry bottom feeders, such as werner, hunt, prime, tri-state, crst, u s express, schnieder national, etc. and thousands just like them, that considers the driver a cheap commodity instead of a human resource.

well here we are - coming into a new year with a new contract.... (NMFA) those of you wanting to join up and work for a Union company need to get your ducks in a row now - so you can hire early this spring and lessen your chance of getting laid off next winter. (earlier you hire = more seniority = higher on totem pole) Chicago are and areas of mid south will be hiring earlier than us in Ohio - but look for hiring to go full throtle by mid april.
