Look into the local union to see if they offer schooling. If so It will cost you less because your a member. Non union look for a PTDI certified school. See if there is a SAGE school near you. Also, If you have your CDL B look for more union jobs that have both CDL A & B and let them know your want to get your A. Best of luck

Today I ran the straight truck in a different route. I took forever to get the day started. 1st pick up truck, then helper, back to shop to load up, ran an errand on the way for the boss then started my day. Made for a late night but were caught up from the holiday. I asked the boss to rotate me with the other drivers so I can learn there routes.

This week I filled in for people calling out and was out of work for my daughters High School Graduation. Now time to prepare for college Its suppose to be hot this up coming week so I'll see what this job will be like throughout the summer.
I finally sat down with My cousins boss and talked about doing reefer work. I'm going to do some work for them on saturday(drop & hook or no touch) to earn extra cash and see if I would like this work for the future. I'll keep everyone posted.

long week, early starts, late days. This is when being paid by the day doesn't benefit you.It only benefits the company. I went into Connecticut to pick up a empty trailer this weekend. The wind was blowing it all over the place near hartford. I had to reduce the speed. As We said in the military" drive to arrive a live". Then I ran into some detours and tight turns when I was close to the shop. It was a great experience. The best way to learn is by doing it and being patient was the key to success.

Check with the union hall first then if they cant help look for a SAGE school they're ptdi certified and a lot of companies want that certification. However, you being from philly should create some exciting job opportunities. NJ & ny being right there with the extra pay
Question, can you drive a eaton fuller 10 speed already? If so and you have a job lined up you could try to find someone to teach you on the side. Also, so schools will teach you maneuvers and take you out for an hourly fee. These are mainly considered cdl Mills but since you have your class b(depending on how long you've had & used it) should catch on quickly. The guys that came to my class with CDL B's progressed faster than others. Best of Luck and Keep us posted.

Still no word from ABF, I called TM he was not in.
I finally got the official blow off from conway freight. He said well I didnt call you back and I have your application. If I want to pursue anything further I'll call. I said thanks what a waste of time with him. Recalled others I applied to and there insurance companies said TWO YRS EXPERIENCE. I'm finishing up paperwork with my cousins job on tue and need to get a definite start date. I put off calling other jobs because of them & I wont anymore. I hope tue is a short day so I can stop by Fowler Express I'm told by some old timers its a company you retire from. We'll see If a friend can pull some strings. Thanks

Bigdaddyjollyrob,
are you looking to leave the company you are with? I am having a hard time finding a company, I have been to a bunch of interviews but it seems no one want to hire with out experience, I have been to construction, freight, and hoisting companies nothing seams to pan out. I am talking to some one from Symco but it starts out as a driver helper it is also an hour plus drive from my house. I think I will just go over the road but the only company I can find that will let me take my dog is Werner.

Check out Fowler Express in Easton and if I leave I will give you a heads up so you could go put in an application just before I go. My position is a a swing driver/helper but I'm paid at the driver rate. I'm finding it difficult to get paid by weekly and at a daily rate. I'm trying to play catch up on bills from my layoff & 5 weeks with no pay. Its not going to happen being paid daily plus I have to admit I'm getting older and the heat +labor pushing heavy weight (glass) is taking its toll. I did earn extra money picking up a trailer in Naugatuck Ct. It was a 300 mile round trip. I enjoyed that. I went to school to drive. I left landscaping because I didnt want to mainly be a laborer and thats what my position is.
