I am talking to some one from Symco but it starts out as a driver helper it is also an hour plus drive from my house. I think I will just go over the road but the only company I can find that will let me take my dog is Werner.
Its tough out there and I had some friends ask me the same question. I continue to call the companies I applied to check on the status of my application. Some are still finishing the background check, others not hiring and I got the final blow off from conway freight. At least he said what I thought dont call me if I'm interested I'll call you. With the increase in fuel/gas looking for a closer job or easier ride(highway) would be best. What ever job I take I will need to stay there for a year. If I get through the week after the fourth of July Id probably just stay but as it gets hotter its going to be tough.

I've checked my bank statement to see when I fill up my truck for work and how much money its costing me. I'm paying way to much to get to my job and Its starting to effect my bills. Being paid a daily wage sucks. there's no overtime and they're taking advantage of that. There's no chance to make extra money daily. I worked saturday for extra $90 but that broke down to $15hr after the hours I put in that day. I've talked to a tanker company that has class A & B trucks. More b's than A's, plus vacuum trucks. I interviewed there before and turned it down now I'm going in for a second talk. If anything its going to save me money being around the corner from my house. If they offer it again. We'll see what happens. I'm also going to apply for Dock work at all the local union companies to atleast get the bennies. Rob

I feel for you Rob, this whole lack of experience situation we have is defiantly an experience. It seems there are plenty of driving jobs in our area but none willing to hire new drivers. The possibilities are endless, in what area of the trucking industry a person could get into. For now its take what you can get then later on its take what you want. Just pay the dues I guess, but that’s the way it is in any field. I finally got an interview with Triumvirate Environmental after week of filling out their online application I must of filled it out like every other day. The interview seemed to have when good but only time will tell. I hope I get the job they are about a 10 minute drive from my house. If they don’t pan out then it’s of to Werner I go. Good luck in you job endeavors

rob, a lot of people (most) are feeling it right now...

with our new "change of ops" guys that are used to going out for 3 days at a time will now be home daily...

(and some of our guys live 100-180 miles away...)

luckily I live 5.7 miles from the roadway terminal in cincy - and that helps...

good luck - and find a path man - find a path

I spoke with my brother in law yesterday and he said its hard when you first start out. Trying to find your niche but it gets worse when you start having financial issues & trying to get experience. I'm fortunate that my old landscaping boss is going to give me work while I try to get into Safety Kleen again. He has class b trucks and the bigger trailers that require an class A license. I'll continue to get experience as I look closer to home for a driving job. With this economy its more about money than the truck I drive. This is why I'll look for dock work as well. THanks for your support

Hey mike, I tried getting into where gene is working. Its hourly with ot after 8 that would be great and I would be able to earn extra money to fix my smaller car so fuel prices wouldn't be an issue. I'm trying to get on local in rhode island with Safety Kleen. If not I have my cousins job in August. I will try to give genes job another call because they're a great company and one that guys retire from and dont quit. I'm back at the landscaping company training the bosses brother on tree & shrub care. Right now I'm happy to be paid hourly & weekly.
