Short week, today we did blind side parallel parking. The set up and getting the 45degree angle is the most important steps. Take your time and get it in the box. It made my class feel good to move on from straight backing. Although everything starts with straight backing. I'll keep you posted.

Cool

Hey all,Got a new instructor and he has helped out great. He likes to keep us moving and trying the different manuvers. This made my class very happy today.(very cold 20 degrees today) We did straight, blindside and moved over to sight side.so glad the holidays are over and back at school. My class starts class work on monday. I'll have to wait and see what they do with me as I already have my permit.I'm hoping while my class is doing general Knowledge i'll be doing manuvers or in the park shifting. Today was a great day other than 20 degrees and feeling like a fudgscicle.LOL

Today I did alley docking, straight backing and blindside. Doing class work on tuesday.Part of it I have to watch video ,general knowledge I do not as I have my permit(i can go to yard for more manuvers). I got back my hazmat finger print letter, going to take hazmat and doubles & tripples test at the DMV on friday. Applied to ABF, doing Roadway,Yellow, new penn and UPS FREIGHT this weekend. I've applied to non union jobs just to cover my a@#. Thats what one of my instructors said to do as a backup. He said If need be get some otr under your belt then get back to union. It all depends on your circumstances,If you can hang on casual then do it,if you need to do otr and get some experience do it.

BigDaddyJollyRob,

It's good to hear that everything is going well. If you can stick it out as a casual, that is what I reccomend that you do. If you are laid off or work is a little slow, try to find something on the side to help get you through it. Seniority counts for everything from layoffs to re-hires. First one laid off, first one hired back. Maybe some of the non unions companies you talked to will hire you on a casual basis. We have not experienced a layoff at my company but I am sure it would be stressfull to others none the less. Good luck to you, I'm sure you'll do just fine. I wish others were as intelligent as you when looking for a career instead of just a job.

DId class work today plus focused on getting our 45 on blindside and the backing keeping the 45.It was great to have the inside classwork as well as the outside classwork doing the 45. On Wed we will follow through with jacking/craddling it in the box. New instructor is making us happy.

From everything I've read on this forum, it really seems that union is the way to go.

Living down here in Florida, I knew a married couple who retired from Disney World after a combined 50+ service together and it took the union to get Disney World to cough up the retirement benefits they'd worked so long for. Without the union, they'd have been high and dry.

God bless and be safe,
Cub
