Remembering James R. Hoffa

Remembering James R. Hoffa
2/14/08
Quote:
The Teamsters have produced many good labor leaders in more than a century of service to working families, but none have earned more respect, inspired and uplifted more members or created a more lasting legacy than James R. Hoffa. In recognition of the 95th anniversary of his birth, we remember and honor this dedicated and visionary leader, who served as Teamsters General President from 1957-1971.

Hoffa, born on February 14, 1913, in Brazil, Indiana, began his working life at an early age following the death of his father in 1921. Hoffa began taking on odd jobs to help support his family and continued this practice when he moved with his mother and three siblings to Detroit in 1924. The memories of those early struggles along with the knowledge that many working families faced hardships everyday just to survive had a profound impact on him and shaped his beliefs and actions in the decades ahead.

Hoffa was one of my heroes! He was quite a person, very complexed. He was very devoted to his family and did not drink, but on the other hand, he was a ruthless businessman. I have contended that the government killed him because with him in the way, deregulation would have been impossible.

I once read a book one time that stated where jimmy was buried. It was under a stadium that was built. I can not remember the name of the book, but it was about hell's kitchen. It had pics in the book of the mob and different characters in it. I think jimmy coonan was one of them and someone named mickey. Does anyone know the name of the book I am talking about?

many myth and legend books were written on the subject

he was probably ground up in a chipper shredder and his pieces blown out over lake michigan...

as for being burried in the meadowlands giants stadium - the TV show MYthbusters recently ran a deep penetrating sonar over the whole floor of the stadium and came up with no voids or changes in density...

I have read a lot of the anti union opinions on here for a very long time and it amazes me how many new drivers who "hate" unions do not even realize that if I made 10 bucks an hour - they would make 8 and if I made 13 bucks an hour they would make 10.80

and BECAUSE I make 56 cents a mile they can make what they do...

this industry would be a minimum wage swill job if not for Hoffa 50 years ago and the early organizers 100 years ago who set up the union.
