How would one go about organizing?

I work for a small company where I am the only driver. Things are ok but could be better I rarely get a full 40hr paycheck, OT after 40 not 8, etc...Would it be possible to obtain union recognition in my situation? I am in Philly, should I call the Teamsters to see what my options are? Just curious, the owner of the company is ok not too much of a ball breaker but he has his set ideas as to what each worker should be making and how long it should take them to get there as well as a few other issues. Any info would be appreciated.

al huryn,

I wish I saw your post earlier. I would be very careful about that. I see that you are the only driver. You are a right to work employee. If you start stirring the pot, you might end up loosing your job. I don't know your situation but since you live in the Phili area, are there any teamster companies that you could apply to? Like latanea said, call up one of the locals in your area and see what direction the recommend. Good luck and let us know what you hear.

Drive safe

I haven't made a move it's just something I've been considering for the exact reasons you're getting at. I'm local and we're in a bad slow down since Christmas so I don't want to rock the boat too much, job is safe we do have work but some of how the boss likes to do things just aren't, i dunno, up to speed, or how things are done in the modern world. He has his own ideas on what people should make and how long it should take them to get there, fine it's his business. But, I bust my ### for this guy and some of his idiosychrosies just don't fit with me so I've been toying with the idea of talking with the teamsters. If I were to do it I think I'd wait until we pick back up but I'm still getting screwed if and until I may decide to go that route. I appreciate your reply I've been thinking the same thing you're saying, I could be completely jobless and right now isn't the best time for that. Any other ideas you might have pass 'em on I would much rather work with the boss than go the route I'm considering. Thanks...Al
