I do recall as a rank and file member of the
Teamsters that the B.A.'s would come out just before an election. They would go around and ask who we were going to vote for. I always told them "Not the Democrat". Then they would lecture me why voting for any one other then a Democrat was a "Bad idea" ect, ect..., blah, blah, blah...
I pissed off one B.A. when I told him I voted for Reagan twice. He then said "Don't you know that Reagan F**%*& over the Air Traffic Controllers!!!" I pissed him off even more when I told him that they, (the controllers) and their union (PATCO IIRC) screwed themselves by not negotiating and striking. Like it or not, my opinion, if you are in a high profile job or a government job, you should not have the right to strike and shut cities, transportation, and public services/safety down. Yeah I know that is politically incorrect but, why should the Firefighters, the Police, Deputies, sanitation workers, bus drivers, pilots hold us hostage to their demands. Just because they can't work through negotiations and arbitrations they feel they have the right to shut every one else down. They all pretty much have great salaries, great benefits and flexible work hours. It's job/career just like any other job/career. What make them above the rest of us?

take a look at this chart from the bureau of labor statistics... lets take a look at the 20 year history of unemployment in the US. Notice how the line graph raises during the GHWB administration, falls during the Clinton administration, and raises back up during the GWB administration. I'll give you a chip for the increase in unemployment during the post 9/11 economy, but your claim is still bogus.

Don't forget that our greatest Bull Market run (late '90's) was due in a large part to Ronald Reagan cutting the Capital Gains Tax. Clinton took all of the credit for something that Reagan began. There is usually a delay in the economy so our recession actually resulted from Clinton's stewardship of our economy and the "natural cycle" of the economy.
Typically Bull markets run between 3-5 years but have run to 7. Bear markets last from 2-3 years but can go as long as 5 years. In between a market you'll see "Mini Bears" in a Bull Market and visa versa.

Great theory. But explain how come all of the recessions since 1950 have happened during Republican administrations?

By the way, they were not all following a democrat.

Again simple economics. The recession from 1974-1981 was caused by the the Viet Nam war spending under Johnson which then became apparent during the Ford administration. Remember the WIN buttons? There was a mild recession during the Eisenhower administration due in part from the effects of the Korean war. WWII was a rare situation where going to war actually increased the GDP. This didn't occur during WWI, the Korean War, the Viet Nam War, and both Gulf Wars. WWII was the exception because the outbreak of the war coincided with a Bull market run that begun in 1941. Technology was a factor in the Bull's run. The street loves innovation and certainty. The Allies were a massive powerhouse in industry which carried the Bull higher.

I'll lay odds that the stimulation package to include the Fed loosening money will allow the economy to improve. If a Democrat happens to win in November, 6 mos. from that period the markets should have corrected and ride higher than were here they are now. The new administration will claim that their "program" stimulated the economy when in fact, it takes about 6 mos for the economy to feel th effects of stimulation or taxation as in the case of the Carter administration when Reagan became President.

We are in much better shape now than in 1981 when Reagan took the office. Prime was the highest in history. I remember I bought a 1981 F-150 for $10K at 21% interest.

We're no where near that situation. We have hit bottom according to many econmists and the up tick is beginning.

Oh, and as a side note IIRC my history, with the exceptions of the Civil War and both Gulf wars, all other wars and police actions took place under a Democrat.

Again if anyone buys into Clinton's assertion that he "created" the 90's economic boom might as well believe that Al Gore invented the Internet.
