Union or Not??

I live in Southern Ontario Canada and I was wandering how someone goes about finding out if a company is Union or not. I have worked(not driving though) for previous employers that were union and some were not so I know the good and the bad about unions and how they work.

I assume you are talking about trucking companies... pretty easy - just ask whoever your contact is...

if you are looking for a union company - call your local hall and ask who all in the area is under their coverage - if you are wanting to avoid a union company - the same method can be employed.

Thanks. When I worked for a union (steelworkers) I was doing assembly line work in a factory. I don't know where to even start looking locally for unions that are for truckers. Just like to know where to start looking then I can decide if I want to work for a union or not.

Dabber, you can use a search engine such as Google. A search for Teamster locals in Ontario produces two results: Freight and Tank Haul locals in Mississauga and London. We must all learn to use the Internet for questions like yours.

good point and info - only problem I see is sometimes there is a very small company that slips through the cracks...

we have 3 small companies in cincy that are covered under local 100 - but you will not find them on the internationals "list" or the locals web site...
