I notice you are from northern Michigan. We have a few drivers from your area. A driver from Detroit lives in Kalkaska and we have an Aurora, Il driver from West Branch. Don't let your location discourage you. Our contract is up May 31 and there are usually a few senior drivers that will retire right after a contract is up. The economy will turn around soon. Keep your eye open for the union companies to do some hiring in the near future. I can only speak from my point of view as a Detroit Cassen's driver, so keep a lookout for Jack Cooper in Lansing to add a few drivers here and there.

Good luck.
Thanks, I'm in Traverse City, so that is good to know!

Polarbear, would it be good to drop by some of the terminals, or just deal with people in the corporate offices?

Your could get the info through the website: [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link.

If you want to contact the terminals directly:

Detroit 888-399-7850
Toledo 888-399-7860
Aurora 888-399-7830
Belvidere 888-399-7820

These terminals would probably be your best bets considering your location and the current hiring climate. I would call for info at this point rather than just dropping by. I can't really say as to their hiring status right now considering most terminals are pretty slow right now (even though spring is traditionally the busiest time of the year for carhauling). Still, you are doing the right thing by asking questions and doing the research beforehand.

If you have any other questions or concerns, just ask. Good Luck!

Hi guys. I'm currently a Sysco delivery/shuttle driver with teamsters. But I'm really sick of the extreme physical labor, and I want to get back into car hauling. I guess you can say I enjoy the hard trucking jobs haha. I can't stand sitting on my butt just being an otr guy, but I also can't stand unloading 20,000 pounds of food products via ramp/hand cart either. So car hauling suites me well. Tough as hell, but not back breaking. So, I'm trying to find a good car hauling outfit. My previous one was a small one that didn't offer any benefits. I applied with Selland Auto Transport a month ago. The recruiter says they're waiting for new trucks? Are there some other good outfits out there I can apply for? It would be nice to be a union car hauler, but I guess it really doesn't have to matter. Thanks for any help. I live in Great Falls, MT.
