"President Panderer, uh I mean Obama, call on line 1"

Obama Says Teamsters
Need Less Oversight

Campaign Talks
On Issue Preceded
Union's Backing

Sen. Barack Obama won the endorsement of the Teamsters earlier this year after privately telling the union he supported ending the strict federal oversight imposed to root out corruption, according to officials from the union and the Obama campaign.
It's an unusual stance for a presidential candidate. Policy makers have largely treated monitoring of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters as a legal matter left to the Justice Department since an independent review board was set up in 1992 to eliminate mob influence in the union.

Boy he will sellout anyone to win. By doing this the Mob and BTW some of his biggest backers are the Chicago crime families come on he is PART of the Chiacgo Machine and the Pay for Play Politics. His Senate Daddy Emil Jones in IL refuses to allow a bill that has 59 co-sponsors out of 60 state Senators to stop pay for play politics in the state of IL. Why you ask this means alot to the trucking industy remember this who ran the Teamsters pension fund into the red before the MOB who would love to get their hands again on it the MOB.

By elimanating the oversite board guess what the Mob will be able to get back into the Teamsters and then look out.

Obama said that publicly, several months ago.

That said, the Independent Review Board hasn't found anything in the last 10 years. I dont think dues-paying teamsters should have to cough up $3-6 million per year for an obsolete committee.

Seems like this story has faded a bit - but it is interesting to look at the way some of our members have been "removed" due to activities not allowed... my point is that for the last decade we have done a good job of governing ourselves and have jumped on problems quicker than the IRB - and in most cases (save from Scarpelli and Morris) handled the situation before they even knew about it.

(racketeering - and extortion)
