Well I think the question could delve much deeper than simple why questions. There are reason behinds purchasing decisions...at least their should be, behind purchasing decisions such as cars...etc. A simple 'cuz its union made' reply is rather chincy when you think about it.

Take cars for example. I could buy a domestic union made car or a foreign car. Or heck, I could face a dilemma and buy a union made car in a US plant owned by a foreign car company...thats a head scratcher right there.

I could buy a ford or any other US made union made car. But from what I have seen from the US car makers, they are doing little to zippo to attract car buyers. Very few cars actually get anywhere near decent fuel mileage.

They continue to make only gasoline powered cars. Very few hybrids of any type and even those are pathetic in improving mileage.

Diesel is the preferred fuel all around the world....except here. WTF?

Interesting point is that the same US car companies that make MORE fuel efficient vehicles for the rest of the world, claim they can't do it here in the states!

I guess Im just tired of the lies. And in this case, its the companies themselves Im getting tired of. So in this situation, the union matter doesnt....matter much to me because Im going to buy a car that fits my needs from a company that knows how to make a good car and makes what the consumer wants. And right now, that needle is pointing to Toyota and a tad towards VW.

Well, the 2 union stewards where I work drive a Toyota (non-union US plant, IIRC) and a Chrysler (Mexico, I think). The president of the local I belong to drives a Mercedes-Benz.

That's my main problems with unions. They protect ALL the workers, the good ones who do a decent job, AND ALSO the lousy ones who need to be fired. But it seems to me that they go out on a limb for the one's who should be fired. At least in the examples I've seen. This from a former Teamster, paperworker, and communications worker.

Protecting F-Ups is one of my biggest issues with Unions and i believe it is one of the bigger issues that is hurting them. If you don't do your job you SHOULD be fired!!
Why do UNION employees when on strike try to get NON UNION jobs till the strike is over?? I wonder if they are called SCABS?

Hmmm. I don't have much experience with the striking world...but I think that the unions do have some money set aside for employee wages (lower) during the strike time. They are still required (correct me if Im wrong) to show up for work, however they protest and stuff.

I havent heard of union peope looking for non-union jobs during the strike.

Well I have told me the money he got while on strike wasnt enough to feed his family.He even told me the strike was BS.

yeah we have a strike fund - about 290 million bucks as of june 1st.

the getting a non union job is not unheard of - but you will be labeled by your fellow members.

just like UAW guys that drive non union vehicles are.
