I can't and won't. Fuel right now is close to $1.00 a mile. How could you pay for truck payments, maintenance, insurance, and eat? $.12 is not even close, that's at 5,000 miles!

the 1.12 is the freight rate

on top of that will be a fuell surcharge - which right now is just about .58

so you would have 1.70 going to the truck...

a truck getting 5 miles per gallon would cost 80+ cents a mile to run

leaving 90 cents in your gain -

minus truck expenses and taxes - you could run a truck at make 29 - 45K a year with it.

These figures may be true with 0% deadhead. With escalating costs deadheading becomes a bigger financial burden.

there are companies to lease on to that pay 100% surcharge

and as a former indy - with my own authority - I can tell you the surcharge is factored into any and all freight bills.

true - but frugal running - and building a customer base and relationships with direct brokers is the best way to combat this.
