the union does not tell you when to take a break - the union provides the contract (that the company agrees to) to ENSURE that you are not driving 30 hours straight and killing people

(kinda like your fellow crete driver 4 years ago...)

"he drove from minnesota to florida - then tagged a mini van and killed 5 or 6 people..."

the union does not tell you to do anything...

BUT it is there to make sure the company follows the rules.

I see a lot more silly crap out of large common carriers (non union) than out of established union carriers...

At my barn we have had 3 accidents this year for all of our drivers (combined).

you figure 180 of us running 2500 +/- miles a week for 27 weeks = 3 accidents for 12 million plus miles...

and we have had 7 tickets for the same group / timeframe

the accidents were all at fault (not counting the non faults)

the tickets were 3 speeding (myself included on one of them) and 4 for various reasons (one cited at accident and at least one was for being on a non truck route).

show me the stats for a swift barn or a werner barn...

Heck pick the average 180 drivers from any large company and see how they compare...

(eliminate the bottom 20% new drivers)

I agree. But my post was aimed at his post stating all union drivers drive safe. It only takes one to make all look bad.

Is he true of all of the union drivers, I say no.

As far as your non union comment, yes you will see bad problems, is it true of all non union drivers? I think not.

You have had 1 speeding ticket? I have only had 1 when I was 16. But 20 mph over is reckless driving.

No tickets at all in the last 11 years. Non union, must be a bad driver.

I am sure everyone has their moments of unsafe driving... and by everyone I mean everyone

but I am talking about across the board you see a lot more courtesy from Union guys - and you are less likely to get ran off the road by a linehaul driver than a cross country zombie...

as for my ticket it was my first in 7 years - 61 in a 55 in Ohio...

I am not anti union. I have not objections to either. Most of the line hauler (union) at least flash lights as a courtesy. Double haulers and the union wagons.

Ohio speeding 61.... So much for the 62-63 theory.

well it was a weird situation - over near belmont...

State boy was coming other way and I was passing an RV and had a car behind me...

technically it was legit - but in reality it was chicken...

Negative, you take a break when your told ( a set time every day). And you must do what your UNION tells you (dont deviate).

I used to be a warehouseman and unloaded then counted then put that info into the computer then put that product away . But now I'm a truck driver (not unloader). Wake up. DRIVE SAFE
