Where was OOIDA ?

Legit question.

Can anyone tell me if OOIDA sent a rep to the Cap & Trade talks last week?

If so, what were the questions and results of said questions?

I know what the outcome was, I primarily want to know if OOIDA made an appearance.

Anyone?

I eyeballed their press releases and did not see any mention of a rep going...

but then again I did not did too deep.

would not suprise me if they just inform their members "after the fact" about the meeting.

I was wondering. Especially since it was/is a critical issue for the industry right now. And it doesn't appear to be going away any time soon.

If they're a no show on this issue.........

well it should not surprise you if they did not show...

like I have said in post time and time again - OOIDA is a great source of trucking industry info - but they have no teeth and very VERY little pull.

they are NOT a union (as many believe they compare) and are stuck in a legal conundrum which would hold them liable if they badmouthed anyone - or instigated any kind of action

(mops brow)'

whee!! there I said it all again!

....snipped....
That's true. But they could have at least been there to show their support, with Hoffa. The jury is still out on that one. I'm still digging.

If they were a no show. There's not a chance in #### they will ever get a dime from me. If I was a member, I would drop my membership immediately.

A $.50 per gallon price increase within a 24 hour period, is not what O/O's need at this moment. Nor do their families (or anyone elses) need the added burden of a 50% jump in utility bills.

This one bill can/will bring this industry to it's knees in a week.

Well I don't know exactly what the strike is about, what they are striking over...etc.

Has anybody contacted OOIDA to see what is going on as far as their input or coverage?

I think you are right in that they are not a union, nor do they wish to be.

Anywho...I don't think I have seen them working together much on issues...so that doesn't just fall on OOIDA's side.

Ziggy, it wasn't a strike. It was an issue dealing with the "Cap & Trade" bill that was to be brought to the floor for a vote, in Congress. Thankfully, someone cared enough about "parts" of the industry to help ALL of the industry.

This one bill would have raised fuel prices by almost $1.50 a gallon. Increased house electric and gas bills by almost 50%.

And OOIDA still remains silent on this issue.

And you are surprised????

I dropped my membership back in 2000 when I realized that the only thing I received from them in a year was the renewal dues.

I dropped my membership in OOIDA after the first year . How can they be "the voice of truckers " when truckers have differing needs and opinions ? OOIDA is pushing for changes in the split sleeper laws . The new regs are bad for teams but good for solos because dispatch abused the old regs , extending drivers' days by putting them in the sleeper for delays . OOIDA pushed for the surcharge to be passed on to the fuel purchaser . Now that may come about many o/o's are complaining it will be a bad thing . OOIDA can't please everybody . Why pay them to act against your best interest on some issues ?
