YRC is going to close duplicate Terminals this summer "due to the economic downturn" as they put it. Is Glenn Moore part of this?

Could everyone please, sort of, stay basically on topic?

Ok so,

1) Atkinson
2) Auto-truck transport
3) Active transport

Note:
a) #2 and #3 aren't conventional OTR van type jobs, but they ARE long-distance driving jobs.

b) The fact that all the companies i know of that are unionized begin with the letter A is purely coincidental and not intentional.

c) #2 and #3 aren't hiring now because new truck sales are not doing so hot right now.

YRC has already closed many terminals that had been Roadway or Yellow due to redundancy in their system. I'm not really *in the loop* on all things YRC but I'd speculate that Glen Moore will be fine due to their hauling of railed freight....wouldn't think that part would change, but who knows what lays ahead for LTL....purely speculation.

Those who abuse the union need to be flat out fired. If ur at a union dock and it takes 8 hrs. to unload, then you need to be paid for anything over 2 hrs. and the rec. is responable for the down time. the same goes for a shipper. a 2 hr window time and the clock starts to tick as long as u arrive on agreed time.

I'm union. and I've hit docks where you have to wait for hours to get unloaded and counted, don't matter if it's a union shop or not, just depends on the folks doing the work. Now if you are doing your own lumping with a few skids and you don't hire an in house lumper well they can try to make it a very long night for ya.Can;t use the eguipment, loading skids in your aisle and such, some places are good, some suck. you got lazy drivers and good drivers, both union and non union.I myself like to feel good at the end of the day that I earned my pay and don"t have to answer to anybody about burning up the clock..but that's just me.

I'm a city driver with ABF. Hiring ? I've heard a few terminals are hiring, you can look on the ABF web site for locations. to be honest, things are slowing down this time of year so don't expect too many hours at the bottom of the board if you come aboard.

For the poster, sorry i cant think of nothin but the local ltl companies for van,but there is a few union flatbed companies up my way..Just keep googling the heck out of what you wanna know, and somthin might turn up..Now,as far as the post goes....Maybe we should clear things up a bit....Lets start with actually getting the job..Not everyone can!..Its about your LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!!!Can you blame a driver for not living within 2 hours of a yrc terminal??No!Can anyone tell me there is one within 2 hours of everyone??No,there isnt..Who's fault is that??No ones..Lets look at a few union flatbed companies up my way..Nick strimbu, and PI&I Motor express..I had a short expirience with strimbu out of brookefield OH..Their drivers only make $300-$500,and their idiea of a retirement plan was $70 a month put in a stock/bond fund of your choice...Who wouldnt want to work there???PI&I is a company over by sharon PA..I have no expirience with them, but have talked to some of their drivers who were happy to make $300 a week..Very high turn over at both places,,Now we will look at yourga flatbead out of wheaton pa..Union,ok trucks, and heard good things about them..The guys said they made $35,000 -45,000 a year with them..I cant remember what the actual math was for retirement, but it basically amounted to $1,000 every month for retirement for every decade worked..Example,20 years worked equals $2,000 a month retirement..Anyway,point being, not every union jobs is gonna make you alot of money..Some union jobs really suck!!I would advise you not to just go with a company cause its union..Heck we have some local food markets that are union, and they get minimum wage..So again, not every union job is the ######..I myself though am trying to get on with the railroad, but bein a young guy,who is a veteran,I dont seem to meet their hiring requirments for entry level conductors..Even though they put on a huge recruiting capmaign to give vets hiring prefference but, they (Norfolk Southern) dont.Even if they werent union I would still try to get on,just cause the railroad is never goin anywhere..Anyways,another thing..I dont understand how some of you union guys expect every job in the U.S. to be union?Should my 16 year old cousin be makin $20 an hour flippin burgers at Mcdonalds??If I owned a flower shop, should my 1 employee be makin $20 an hour??Your trying to argue somthing that just dosnt make sense no matter how you look at it..Plus I will never undertsand how you guys talk about brotherhood, and then turn on guys who dont go on strike with you cause they are ok with how everything is goin..Thats not brotherhood...For the guy who said GM went downhill cause of their bad products, and the workers tried to tell them about it,,thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard..I know people who worked at the GM plant in Lordstown..They will be the first to say they didnt care, cause they were makin $30 an hour to do a monkey's job..If the employee's fealt like the products were gonna cause the demise of GM,why didnt they go on strike til GM agreed to make better stuff??Oh wait I forgot, they only strike to benefit themselves....

Locations.

Locations will make you or break you when it comes to unions. OTR companies can move on a wimb. A company like Greyhound, which is union, has to follow specific routes, which makes it hard to just get up and move. I remember working a strike for a large newspaper here in NY area and when the strike happened, immediately the company moved the distribution to another location.
