They exist, but they're few and far inbetween. Part of the reason is that is hard to organize drivers that are always out on the road. How do you get them all in one place at one time to vote? Or to discuss contract negotiations?

Second, a lot of OTR drivers are anti-union, compared to other drivers. Why? I don't know. Maybe it's because they spend a lot of unpaid time at union grocery warehouses, and that narrow view is what they think of unions. (like non-union grocery warehouses are any better).

Who said that IBT isn't interested in organizing UPS truckload? Not that I dont believe you, but I've never heard of this before...

why would you want to go union? do you hate to work? anyways unions are outdated and need to be taken out to the pasture.

I'll put it this way I go to a Union Wearhouse.....hmmm safeway Tracy, CA takes them 8 hours to unload a 3/4 full truck IF im lucky.

I go to some hole in the wall wearhouse like Gilber Paper in Stockton, CA take a Mexican and a pallet Jack 45 minutes to unload 44K pounds of paper, unions are what brought this country down to the way it is, they guys who works for what he has gets fired but union boy who cant scratch his balls without calling his union rep dont do anything and makes $$$

As a former Union man, railroading, I have a hard time reading about lazy union folks. Sure there are those. But lots of union folk are the hardest workers you will ever find. You must remember one simple truth, Farmers built this country and unions built the middle class. Watch the bid sites for loads. People by nature undercut each other to get the load. At some point you lose money hauling but take the load to get home. Unions keep people from making short sighted decisions.

Anybody that reads my posts knows that Im pro-hard worker. However, and maybe Im just hanging around the wrong spots (everywhere), but I really haven't heard many stories (none come to mind at this moment) of a fast / efficient union worker. Im not saying that as an insult...Im just pointing that out as a fact.

On here, we get lots of union guys ripping the non-union guys for their lack of morals...etc...basically all insults for not going the union way. However, I havent seen one comment about the non-union workers lack of hard work or efficiency. On the other hand, most of the comments from the non-union guys against the union guys are the lack of productivity.

Now, you brought up the railroad. And no, I don't know how their shift change process works although I've heard that they basically stop the train somewhere when their shift is done. I know of a weird named company out here that has a sole job of picking up and dropping off the train...workers. Now, the train doesnt stop just anywhere...it stops in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming. Quite a few times, I have gone over a bridge to see the suburban driving down the side of the tracks to get the employees, and at this one particular location, its about 90 miles away from town. I highly doubt the RR workers stop getting paid when they get off the train in the middle of Gods Country, so they most likely continue to get paid XX per hour until they punch out back at the nearest office. I could be wrong. Its a total and complete waste of money to do such a thing, having them stop the trains out in the country somewhere because their shift is over instead of just scheduling them for a shift from A to B. Lol of course then one could make the argument of getting stuck somewhere due to issues on the track as they sit and get paid overtime or whatever.

The Farmers busted their humps, made extreme sacrifices and worked day in and day out, 7 days a week...THEY not only built this country, they set a standard.

and unions built the middle class.
And the middle class is merely the class between poverty and rich people.
*middle class are the ones who brought this country to its economic toilet flush it is in right now due to getting ARM mortgages which had little to no requirements of proof of income. Too many people buying too much house with too little money.
*middle class are the ones stuck in thousands upon thousands of dollars of debt up to AND beyond their eyeballs because of the "im entitled to it, I want it now" mentality.
Saying the unions built the middle class isnt much of a statement since the middle class is built on a house of cards at this moment.

Thats why its called Bidding. Free Market Economy. You only lose money if you can't run your business efficiently.

Ziggy, I'm pretty sure federal law prohibits those crews from working over a set hours per day, Much like our HOS, only theres is strictly enforced
