The world as we know and like it, is being taken over and changed by those with the most money. Those of us at the bottom of the heap are gonna stay there.
They still make whiskey in America........Don't they??

Sad part is it can be described in 1 word globalzation....i dont like it u dont like it but unless u got more money then bill gates u wont even slow it down....this is where companies like toyota were seeing what was coming and got a head start when they moved into the US. You talk about deregulation...seems like if we continue to go this way were going back to deregulation

How can we go "back" to deregulation if we already HAVE deregulation?

Why would Landstar "fold"???
They don't own any trucks and pull some of the better paying freight in the country. Their stock has consistently grown about 10-18% annually for years.

Update

several Alvan drivers were taken on at 3 of our Michigan locations - as well as many of the dock hands in the South Bend area...

many more in Indy have found work at fed ex (hub ops)

- since this thread began several more companies have filed for chapter 11 -

Jim Palmer was the largest - and will be continuing ops in a limited mode.

(reminds me of when Dick Simon went under)

I have heard some rumors - but can not verify that some of the old Alvan locations will be bought by RnL - which would be kinda weird since they are not exactly "doing well" right now...

dunno - strange days

now = how this all applies to this thread - and its pavement in the Teamster / OOIDA section...

Jim Palmer was a company the HIGHLY encouraged their drivers to be OOIDA members - and even allowed OOIDA reps to place info packs in the orientation handbooks - and pamphlet hangers on the walls of their two main terminals in Salinas Ks. and Missoula Mt.

I had heard more than once from JPT drivers that they considered themselves "almost unionized" since the majority of their drivers were members of OOIDA -

all to no avail I fear - in these times no membership or affiliation can save you or your company when the bankruptcy demons come a knockin'...
