Teamsters strike halts shipment of Ford trucks

Teamsters strike halts shipment of Ford trucks
8/22/08
Quote:
Teamsters Local 89 members began the fourth day of a strike yesterday, halting the shipment of Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks from the Kentucky Truck Plant.

It is uncertain how Ford Motor Co. will move the trucks to dealers.
"These people on the picket line are not asking for higher wages or better health care," Ken Lauersdorf, the union local's business agent, said as he manned a line on Westport Road.

I couldn't agree more with this, which was posted in the articles comments section.

"$17-$18 an hour vs. $60 a week strike pay!! Our public education system at work. Now these folks are faced with a tax increase to help pay for the system that gave them these great math skills. Let the unions rot. They have outlived their usefulness and are only in existence to exist. The stats show they are declining ever so steadily. Ford should hire a NON-UNION company to move their vehicles."

Strike pay is not 60 bucks a week - closer to 600...

Local 89 will break through on this deal - and concessions will be met soon.

I'm just curious, but what Union training was involved in getting their members ready to drive new trucks around a parking lot?

Seems to me the job could be done by a bunch of high school kids.

Something tells me a high school kid could see his way clear to do the job for less than $20 bucks an hour.

Illegals would do it real cheap just to enjoy driving a new truck and lots of them.

Rather listen to that than these boom ka boom boxes and rap crap. But if Ford Chev.Dodge and some more keep cutting back there will not be any trucks and suvs to haul.See lots of Independent Trucks hauling cars now days.I dont blame ford or any other CO.if I owned a company its my money so I would hire Ind.contractors.Get it done cheaper and a lot better service.

No offence to anyone, but I think that people today should be happy to have a job, and stop the gripping about it!! Most companies today are using temps, crap pay and no chance for health insurance!!

American only truck crazy girl, cause nothing else will do!!!!

Yes I have seen temps come and go but I have seen them get a steady job with the COs by working not loafing.
