Obama picks truck driver to speak at DNC

8/22/08
Michigan Messenger, Michigan
Quote:
As a nod to union workers, Sen. Barack Obama has chosen a Teamsters union official from Taylor, Michigan, to speak at the National Democratic Convention the night Obama accepts the party’s nomination for president.
The union worker, Roy Gross, is a truck driver who spoke at Obama’s Warren rally in May. There, Gross outlined the troubles he’s facing as a blue collar worker in Michigan.
On August 28th, Gross will address over 75,000 Democrats at Invesco Field in Denver with a message about his struggles working in Michigan’s weak economy.

A "minority" Presidential Candidate picking a speaker from another minority (Union Hack)......
Perhaps he should have picked a speaker who really had to work for a living, instead of one that has the UNION standing behind every piece of deadwood.

As the Statist is building a culture of conformity and dependency, where the ideal citizen takes on drone-like qualities in service to the state, the individual must be drained of uniqueness and self-worth and deterred from independent thought or behavior. This is acheived through varying methods of economic punishment and political suppression.

I ain't gettin' into the whole minority thing, but on the whole, if you wanna keep being screwed, Vote for Obama. You may not like McCain, but your pockets and your freedoms will benefit from voting his way. Just my opinion. I could be wrong.

When I saw what the union guys were making for assembling cars (over $80/hour with wages and benefits) I quickly realized why Michingan has died.
So now Obamarama is going to have a union guy from Michingan as a speaker? Hmmmm. I wonder if he is going to sing praise for what the unions did.

Maybe he will have the answer to why Michigan leads the nation in unemployment.

I had a gig of re-locating Penske rental trucks for awhile. I soon realized that all the trips were picking up trucks in the south and delivering them to various cities in Michigan. I was talking to a Penske rep and he said they could not get enough trucks to take care of all the people leaving Michigan.

When I was in Wyoming, one of my neighbors worked for a Wyoming job bank, he spent half his time at job fairs in Michigan and other Rust Belt states trying to get welders and others trades to move to Wyoming, where he had high paying jobs just waiting for folks to fill them.

He heard more than once that people couldn't wait to get out. Of course, there are plenty more who have no intention of every leaving.

If you ask most of these labor union workers, they're not exploiting anyone--they're simply not allowing the company to pay them extremely low wages for their work. Seriously, tightening lug nuts isn't complicated, and while they feel they deserve the money, I feel the other way. Most union workers just try to get the union to exploit the employer as much as possible, much like a poster here who likes to get overtime by asking shippers to load him after everyone else, showing up late for appointments, etc. Of course, if they pay any less, the company is scrutinized for paying so little to maximize their profits, while the union workers see it as the company working for them. I have to grandparents that retired from Ford and what they get with the retirement is absolutely ridiculous.

Alot of these Union workers are actually working themselves out of a job. And the auto makers are a big one. I tell my union buddies that they stand alot to lose if they get the boot. Its easier to lose a $12.00 job then $36.00 job. Just another view of overpaid workers.
