We are all Union brothers - and we ultimately work as a team - the blame lies on the company on this one - not the util drivers.

local cartage is local - a util driver runing 600 mile turns is our territory - not theirs.
Thanks... this was a very useful thread... ignore my request for an explanation of terms... thanks.

The Utility Driver / Velocity Driver , whatever you want to call it, was incremented to help keep up with FED EX. I don't buy into the whole thing about YRC going broke. FED EX has been around along time, so have we... don't you think if they were the problem... it would have been issued years ago. I know what numbers inbound and outbound we do and have done for the past 4 yrs.... You can't tell me that we aren't making money.

PLUS... have you heard any advertisements or sales getting out there selling the NEXT DAY SERVICE? I haven't seen NOT 1 NEXT DAY BILL.

Not sure about other terminals... but our terminal is making up rules as it goes on this issue. I filed 7 aggreviences and NOT 1 was recorded right... which our union guy said that his secretary dropped the ball. Another guy had as many as I did... and he told him the same thing.

They have pushed this Utility to get it working, and it does work from what I see. But NO ONE is selling it for MORE BUSINESS.

How do you get more business if no one knows about it? Just like us buying the Trucking company in CHINA... I haven't seen any sales on it either.

Are they scared of getting too much business?

Smiley 5 Holland to eliminate utility workers???

This memo was emailed to me last night -

Holland is the first of the YRC Family to see that the UE position is not as effective as the big brains thought...

I personally think that we should give this a chance. The Holland that I knew is no longer. Either we change to keep up or die. It will work if the people will give it time. At best it has made it a line haul job, to protect bids & jobs, you now will be able to do your drop & hook at all terminals faster to get you on your way to the next terminal so they can do there job. We will be able to cross-dock at all terminals when dark , at velocity centers even when the city is working. This will make things faster.

Not everything is perfect, However it is a start. Holland has had ( a form of the ue) since they started back in 1947 by the Cooper's they had a great vision and alot of common since in the movement of freight, and the best part was it worked well.

I'm not against giving it a chance, you grow and adjust to the market place. I still have a copy of coopers agreement with jimmy hoffa, holland started growing and became the company we knew. I feel it's time to crank up the sales staff and allow us to do as we have done in the past.

Agree but first you need to get the sales out of yrc and back to Holland.

that may happen fairly soon afetr the yellow / roadway splice...

I imagine Holland (just like we did at big R) had a pretty good sales staff prior to this YRC junk...
