I never said I did not shop at wal mart...

?
Kroger won't survive on sales of beer and meat . People shopping at WalMart for groceries has caused Kroger to cut costs including putting Teamster truck drivers out of work and giving the work to companies like U.S. Xpress .

Kroger doesn't have the modern "mega-sized" stores necessary to compete with deep discount stores like walmart, although they do outperform walmart service-wise. Around here, roundys, sentry and costco are union and growing amid fierce competition with walmart.

Not really . It's happened to me a couple of times too . Once the consignee changed the delivery date to a day later but nobody notified our dispatch or the shipper . I got paid to wait the extra day . Another time there was a Sunday delivery and the product was slightly out of spec but usable . They have to shut the plant down if they didn't have the product by noon Monday . Nobody with authority to accept the load could be reached on Sunday . I stayed on the clock through the 10 hour break . It's only right . I had a load scheduled for Monday that I had to give up .

knighton5,

You can't remember how much you get paid per hour for detention time? Just a few hours ago you stated " It's fine now that we get paid detention!!!". You got paid to sleep for 10 hours and you don't have any idea what your rate is? Something is wrong here.

Isn't that nice of them to finally start paying detention! Does it start from the time you arrive or do you have to give up some time? If you have to give up any amount of time, you are only cheating yourself.

Maybe if companies started paying their driver's properly, you would see the turnover rate drop dramatically. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe you work for Crete now. Do you know what their turnover is?

Drive safe

In my hometown, we watched as the unions negotiated for many years with no mercy until the last union company had enough and just closed the plant with no notice. Now, they all work at non union jobs for the most part.

I have all ways though it kind of strange that anyone that crosses a picket line is a Scab.If so what do you call a union worker that will take a nonunion job till the strike is over??
