why?

the lower pay?

paying for insurance coverage?

or maybe being away from your loved ones for weeks at a time?

that all sounds awsome to me!

No. It is not better to work for a non-union company. Non union companies have to much power over it's employee's!

In fairness, the items you stated are important to you, but they may not be on the top of another's priority list. I agree that if you want a company driving job with good pay, benefits, and hometime, it is pretty hard to beat a teamsters gig. On the other hand, you must honestly agree that not everybody is cut out for that kind of job.

So the answer to the original poster's question in my opinion is; it depends on the person and what their priorities are. In most cases for company drivers, a union job would be best.

By the way, this is coming from a former union man. In a previous life, I was the Vice President of U.A.W. local 1168 in Greendburg,In.

Your hire wages and benefits are pushing you out of a job. If you need 20-30 an hour, your in for a big surprise when you get the boot. I think if you look at the big picture, you would see this... Again, if Union was so great, then every company would be Union, right?

Ive personaly never felt that any company has had to much power over me, or I would go else where. The company runs there business to stay in business, and if a Union comes in, I see a big speed bump, which hurts the company to grow - look at Walmart, Target examples.

Ya, just look at Target and Wal Mart.

Wal Mart is one of the reasons we are in the bad position we find ourselves today.

Wal Mart, Sam, went to China and when he came back he bought Chinese products for his stories. He also demanded that his American suppliers go to China to produce there products. Now China is is the producer of the world, and they are driving up the cost of fuel to boot. And thanks to Wal Mart we have plenty of jobs, and plenty of cheap **** to buy.

This is your non union mentality at work. If you like it, well you got it. I don't expect you will be bothered, or hurt, by it the way your talk'n.

Ya, thanks Target and Wal Mart.

Most people who have never had anything in their lives do not know the difference between a good thing for labor - and the daily grind.

Those of us who "have" in the world of labor strive to pull up those who "have not".

Those that argue with us - we pity.

It depends on the company . If the company treats the employees fairly there is no need for a union with risks of strikes . I worked for Dennison Stationary Products in the 90's . To keep the union out years earlier they paid union wages . In the coming years things got tight and the teamsters had difficulty raising wages . We got the same raises as factory employees as well as better health insurance than teamster members , profit sharing , and an employee stock ownership plan . I've seen too many workers hurt by unions . My father worked for a concrete company where union drivers got a lot of overtime . They were doing well but decided to strike . The company settled and started a second shift of drivers . Drivers' weekly pay dropped drastically . Sometimes second shift workers had nothing to do for a couple of hours but it was cheaper than paying overtime to other drivers . A few years later the company sold out and a lot of drivers were out of work .
