Working for the Teamsters?

I live in Indiana and THE UNION to be in around here is Teamsters. My question is what is the best way to go about getting into the union. I have my CDL but absolutely no experience. Paid my way through driving school in hopes to land a union job.

I believe local 135 is in Muncie, IN. I would visit the hall down there or call them. I dont personally know where the jobs are down there, though.

Teamster Jobs

They do have a teamster job board at Teamsters website. YellowRoadway will let you drive there if you can get their hr guy in your region to get you into their new driver program. One thing to remember about being a union driver is that you have to be dedicated to that. Once you get the brand of union, a lot of non'union companies don't want to hire you.

There are several decent threads that give you all the info you are looking for.

Please use the tools available and "Search" for Teamsters.

I will tell you that right now is not the best time to try and find work - the YRC companies are restructuring - UPS is slow - and ABF is getting hit by the economy pretty hard.

I would recommend gaining some practical experience and keeping an eye on the Jobs in your area...

Muncie is my old stomping ground - and I also think local 135 (Indy) is the overlying zone... (not 100% sure about it - but sounds right)
