Are you serious?

Every union is separate, although there are two large federations of unions : Change to Win (CTW) and American Federation of Labor - Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). CTW is a newly formed federation comprised of Teamsters, United Food and Commercial Workers, Service Workers Union, and other former AFL-CIO unions. AFL-CIO was formed in the 1950's as a merger of the AFL and the CIO and is the larger of the two federations. The federations dont really have any operational purpose, as they are more an agreement on operation, ie what union organizes what industry, etc.

Some unions are independant of any federation affiliation, like the largest union in the US, the National Educators Association, for example.

Not true, at least not without legal ramifications. That is called a 'Secondary Strike' and it is against the law.

For example, say Teamsters Local 123 calls a strike against ABC Frieght Company. UAW Local 654 members would not be able to strike against their employer, Generous Motors, to show support for the Teamsters.

true... and a lot of people do not realize this secondary clause / law...

what I do on my own is to find out whoever is locked out or on a picket line and bring them donuts - or lunch...

last time Ford striked in sharonville - the wife and I took over 3 coolers of water and pop - and bought 10 4 foot long subs from a local deli that gave me a KILLER deal (75 bucks I think).

Solidarity takes many forms...

Well Im trying to remember where this was...its a vague memory but I do recall something where I think it was in the airlines that the stewardesses were going to join the pilots or mechanics or the lunch tray washer unions strike. Or some type of similar action.

It works differently when two bargaining units are striking against the same company. It varies by situation, but it happens.
