To Cut Your Own Trail means you do not require spoon feeding
Spoon Feeding means you have everything handed to you
Unions are double taxed labor IMO

IMO one either allows the "spoon feeding" or chooses their own swath through life. Being a union member did not take away my options.

Double taxed? I can see that...but in the same breathe...as a union member # 90% pay I made 83.3K in 2008....as a non union driver I will be lucky to break 45K in 2009....so be my guest...double tax me!

1) Teamsters, but this was before i started driving; This was when i was loading trucks at UPS.

2) Steamfitters while at NEMF. This was one of the best jobs i had. I may go back to them.

3) I.A.M. (machinists) while at auto truck. The best OTR job i had period. i would also like to go back to them---as soon as truck sales take off again, if ever.

i am sold on unions. My next job will probably/hopefully be unionized.

Fried:
i respect your beliefs. However:

1) Most importantly, How do you know/not know that the companies and management are not equally, if not more, corrupt than the "bureaucracy?"

2) Have you ever actually been a member of union?

i believe in cutting my own path too. However, sometimes you need help cutting thru all the bulls hit.

i never had anything handed to me career-wise; i ran my tail off at both companies. The managers know this and my shop stewards know this.

Yes, there are some/many lazy-butt unionized workers----just as there are some/many non-unionzed workers who are also lazy. But this is a subject for another thread.

Teamsters locals 673 and 786 as a Ready Mix driver for almost 8 years. When 673 became corrupt we took the union back in the next election. The family that was running it was thrown out and drivers took the local back over and are representing the rank and file appropriately now. All BA's were tossed, the VP was tossed, the treasurer, the president, the whole union leadership got cleaned out by the drives they were supposed to represent. One of the proudest things I've been associated with.
