Chart Bar What Unions Have You Held Membership IN?

There are many MANY labor/trade Unions in The United States. I was curious as to which ones you all have been members in.

(prior to trucking or during your CDL careers)

Dumptruck

AFL-CIO. I used to build prisons before I started trucking. I built the Federal Prison in Allenwood, PA. The skyrise prison in downtown Pittsburgh, Pa...and the state prison in Waynesburg, PA. You talk about HARD work! Wowsers! I used to sleep like a baby puppy at night though!

Contrary to my views and opinions on unions, lol.....

I worked once at a city utility that was unionized. However, I was summer work / aka...non union.

I worked for a year and a half at a Rainbow Foods store that was unionized...UFCW. .......yep.

Then as a teacher....I worked in Las Vegas and a district in WY. I cant remember if Vegas had a union or association. I know my WY district was an association. I worked between those two towns for a year in MN as a para professional in a school district...and to be honest, Im not sure at all if I was a member of anything, lol.

Ive never belonged to a union, however, do the unions belong to ONE major outfit?? Like Hoffa is in charge of? Or is everyone a totaly seperate union? I always see different names and/or numbers, Im just curious. Is one union better then another? Thx

Im not sure of the specifics...but no...unions for the most part are generally seperate from each other. Sometimes they try to work together if they are part of a overall process or whatever. ie...airlines. The pilots and stewardesses sometimes team up with each other....or the mechanics...etc.

Also...sometimes if one walks...another one will too as a show of support.

I was a member of the ATU Amalgamated Transit Union when driving transit buses and I was in the UTU United Transportation Union when I was a Conductor for Amtrak. I was a shop steward when working for First Transit here in Denver
