Teamster Carhaulers Ratify Three-Year National Agreement

National Agreement Contract Secures Record Level of Benefit Contributions

October 24, 2008

(Washington, D.C.) – Facing the worst slump in the automotive industry in decades, Teamster carhaulers have ratified a new national agreement that secures a record level of employer contributions for health, welfare and pension benefits. The agreement was overwhelmingly ratified by a 75 to 25 percent margin. ([LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. .

Shield

looks pretty decent -

I would assume until the economy rebounds that no new drivers will get to taste this deal. But, for the guys already on board - it is a decent deal for the next 36 months.

(congrats!)

Let's see how many car hauling companies this pushes to bankruptcy in the next 36 months . The auto transport industry has already been hurt by decreased production and rising costs of everything from fuel to parts and tires to insurance .
A couple of large transport companies have already gone bankrupt . Surviving companies can't be far from it . I'm not saying paying higher benefits will be a lone cause of bankruptcy but it could certainly contribute to it .

If the auto co's would have stayed a head of the game, maybe they would'nt be in the trouble that they are. Should have started 20 year's ago.

Good for these guys!!!!!!!!!....I wish I was working there....
I just started for a non-union car haul company, I have worked 18 days in the last three weeks,18-20 hours a day, haven't got a full 34 reset yet, and the % pay has worked out to $133.00 a day......

Oh, I finished last night,...And don't plan on going back....As much as I need a paycheck,...I can't see working like a dog just to get kicked around like one...

It's a shame that the job didn't work out for you. I see in the teamster agreement they talk about "off-rail" traffic, I wonder which rail heads they are talking about and if it will get in the way of my work.

hey, walleye, since you have 11 years under your belt, try looking into Tax Air Freight. They run local line-haul, pick-up and delivery if you are looking to go company driver. I dispatched for them back in 2000 and did some fill-in driving. They were a pretty decent company.
