Strike at trucking company near 7th week and counting

Strike at trucking company near 7th week and counting

10/30/08
Quote:
A strike by hundreds of workers at Auburn-based Oak Harbor Freight Lines Inc. will enter its seventh week Tuesday with no resolution in sight, spokespeople for the company and the Teamsters union said.
"I like to be optimistic, but I don't see an end to this," said Al Hobart, vice president of the western region of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which represents all the striking workers through 12 locals.
"I don't think the company is serious about doing something. They're just trying to wear the union down, period."
Company spokesman Mike Hobby said, "It's really not up to us whether there's an end in sight," but he said the two sides are continuing to negotiate.

Does anyone know how much a person Striking is making an hour or week? Is it a set wage for everybody or is there different pay rates? You would think that some strikers would have to give in at some point unless there paid well. Thanks

I believe it varies by local, but it's usually a couple hundred bucks per week.

I don't know what it is but I guarantee if officials at the locals that were striking were required to suspend their salaries and live on strike pay for the duration of the strike you'd see less strikes and they wouldn't last near as long .

Thanks, but you never answered my question. I have no idea what a striker is paid. If you were to strike for a long time, how much would you make? You have bills to pay unless you dont want a roof over your head. Pride dont pay bills or keep your family fed.

There's always Google . This 2004 article says they get $475 a week (more than they earn ? ) [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link.
This is better than the $100 a week Overnite workers got in 1999 .
[LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link.
But then in 2006 they were only getting $250 a week . [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link.
Then last year $150 a week . [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link.

If somebody gave you a straight , simple answer about strike pay I wouldn't have had to do all that research but I can see why they didn't want to make that info known .

Just a little more thought here on strike pay. A quick look indicates it is not considered taxable income as well.

unfortunatly, when I go home, Oak Harbor is where my company has me store my trailer... ive never carried any freight in or out of there but I have seen our trailers in docks and in their loaded trailer area...

I got called all sorts of names... I feel bad for them. I dont take offense, Im just trying to go home... theyve got a pretty loud PA system and get close enough to cause concern for me to be very slow and careful... but dont actually block my path.

there is a lot of extra security and at least 2 of them are holding video cameras to catch any incidents with incoming and outgoing trucks.

ive had some contact with the employees still working and its like nothing is going on and business as usual...

If I could park anywhere closer to my house that is secure I would...this place is 40 miles away as it is.
