Obama team hears truckers’ perspective from OOIDA
11/26/08
Quote:
President-elect Barack Obama won’t be taking office without a firm understanding of the issues facing truckers on the road thanks to the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association.
OOIDA Executive Vice President Todd Spencer accepted an invitation from Obama’s transportation transition team to meet with the group on Monday, Nov. 24.
The team heard from a variety of groups representing different aspects of the trucking industry. Groups that met with the team include the American Trucking Association, the Truckload Carriers Association, Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, National Private Truck Council and the truck manufacturers.
Spencer said he was in the fortunate position to present the Association’s position on many of the issues raised by other groups.
“It worked to our advantage that the other groups presented first,” Spencer said. “It gave us the opportunity to express our points and to address issues other organizations didn’t get quite right.”

Only time will tell.......let us hope it tells a positive story and not a negative. I finally saw my first mexican truck on wednesday on I-35S about 40 miles out of Laredo,TX hauling a Schneider trailer. Thought it was unusual cause I always though they did the relaying south of the border not north. Guess times are changing

You expect too much from a state that is pretty harsh on truckers.

Especially since he is from Chicago. They really love trucks up there.

I am not expecting anything from Illinois -

I just stated that Obama has been receptive to blue collar issues in Northern Ill. - and hopefully he will continue to stay informed as President - only on the national level.
