Merge OOIDA to meet with Obama’s transition team

OOIDA to meet with Obama’s transition team

Quote:
With the election barely weeks behind us, the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association isn’t wasting any time in educating the Obama administration on the plight of truckers and the trucking industry.
And, Monday will be a big step forward in that process.
Obama’s transition team reached out to OOIDA and asked for a meeting. Todd Spencer, OOIDA’s executive vice president, will get together with members of the transition team on Monday, Nov. 24.
The conversations will not revolve around potential picks for the Secretary of Transportation, but rather will be focused on the issues facing the trucking industry.

The blow hards at OOIDA at it again...............I just wish they could do more than talk. Come on, we still have the Mexican truck program going.

I fear that Obama's advisers will convince him that truckers are "wealthy" and tax us even more......

Obama gained political power in a HEAVILY saturated trucking / blue colar area...

I do not think he would be swayed by advisors regarding the needs of truckers.

If anything - He is more informed on our industry (from the drivers standpoint) than Either Bush's/Clinton/Reagan or Carter...

This is not the place for political debate etc.

My point is that Obama gained political power in an area populated primarily by blue collar folk - love him or hate him he is aware of his constituents in northern Illinois.

He was very receptive to meetings regarding trucking industry issues in the past - and I would hope that he would do so in the future.

Hopefully, he'll have a realistic view on things, rather than the stuff that's pushed by some of the so-called 'safety' groups that think trucks and truckers are to blame for everything. I'm drawing a blank on the names of some of them right now, as I have not had enough caffeine yet!

Our old nemesis Joan Claybrook comes to mind ([LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. who is an expert on everything wrong about the trucking industry.

come to mind as well as splinter groups with agendas.

I imagine Spencer had a lot more disinformation to impart on the team about the Mexican truck issue. I am hoping though that the Obama team can see through all the spin and leave things as they are.

I didn't vote for the man, but he is impressing me with his meticulous methodical manner of going about the transition. He may end up surprising all of us.
