Just a quick ? here. if unions are so good why are their #s falling?? Ive been a teamster(6 yrs) uaw (15yrs),much as I hate to say it the American public really has no sympathy towards them, ask someone who experienced "whipsawing" by gm+uaw to explain how a fellow uaw members local undercut payrates to take work from other uaw members, It happened to 5000 of us in one plant.they farmed the work out to other plants,To say the least if this was solidarity count me out!

Well as you know there are pros and cons. There are threads here "why I hate/love union". This thread is about the teamsters moving their money out of an institution. I don't see a reason for this move to be considered wrong. Decisions like this are made by organizations everyday.

I am not upset - I am one of the few that are optimistic and looking forward to my time as a YRC driver.

The Teamsters general membership numbers are higher today than they have been in 25 years.

IIRC, FOX's Sat biz show panel was discussing the fact that union membership was on the rise. Government workers, but union nonetheless.

Now, my experience was that many people who didn't like some of the union tactics and policies, never went to meetings, or talked to union bosses. They are no different than politicians. If nobody makes noise, they will do what they want. So you better let them know you don't like something. Otherwise, accept your fate as a dormat.

Trying to "Reason" with the Union i was in was a good was to get your ##### kicked. They wouldn't listen to anyone "below" them...............

My problem with the Union was our local got switched from a Construction/Rock&Sand to warehouse to have inclusive membership.
Anyone remember Local #420? It was switched to the #982 and went downhill when they made Gene Brewer a B.A....

I guess I was lucky that the local I was in (346) was well run and the BA that handled our contract was very good at his job and was always available for calls,..I had 3 or 4 numbers for him and he would answer 24/7/365,if need be,.......I took it for granted that all locals were like that....
