But yet they try to promote they help the little man in trucking!

I'm not totally against OOIDA, but in the end they are still just another organization wanting our money.

Does OOIDA post it's corporate salaries for us as the trucker to see how much of our money is spent just keeping them working before they supposedly champion our cause. Thier salaries will tell us where thier true intentions are.

If they are a non profit that info should be out there. That being said I am not sure they are even non profit.

Reasons to join OOIDA...

Somebody has got to keep the ATA from running the show...the ATA is only in it for the big companies. OOIDA is in it for the little guys...and nobody else.

I've never been an O/O and never will be...but I'll be damned if I'll support the ATA. I've been an OOIDA member for 6 years.

The bickering between the ATA and OOIDA is comparable to the Brady campaign and the NRA (NRA life member, been a member since I was a kid)....the OOIDA is the best option the "little guy" has for a voice in Washington.

Some of you seem to think the OOIDA doesn't do anything accept take your money...a little research and you would see just how wrong you are. They work hard to get things done...but its not easy when politics are involved, it takes money to get things done...and lots of it.

They are NOT non profit, so why would it matter? Holy hell they charge $45 a year for membership, that's under $4 a month. Just what do you people want for nothing? LOL

I hear on the XM trucker channel all the time about OOIDA fighting for this or that cause and it seems like they are the only powerful lobby working for truckers. Just like the NRA, they aren't a union so I wouldn't expect to much from them on an individual basis but I would expect more from them than a "good luck" if I were to ask them for help fixing my DAC. Also, they just lost the amendment to allow CCW reciprocity in the defense authorization bill. That blows.

I'm going to join, I would feel better pitching in 50 bucks for big picture causes even if they wouldn't help me as an individual.

they would have alot more clout with more members

if 50% of the drivers out there would join just imagine the clout 11/2 million members would have lobbying costs money and with out it nothings going to go your way in dc

but most of the naysayers would rather spend $500 on a souped up cb to annoy people than $45 on something that might actually help here is only strength in numbers

i'm sure most of us have wasted $45 on worse things

heres what the ata spends

ATA Hires Chapman Capitol Consulting for Lobbying American Trucking Associations lobbying expenditures for 2007: $982,321.00* The American Trucking Associations, Inc. recently hired Chapman Capitol Consulting Inc. to lobby the federal government on transportation-related issues, according to the disclosure forms to the left. Lobbyists are required to disclose activities that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches, under a federal law enacted in 1995. Lobbyists must register with Congress within 45 days of being hired or engaging in lobbying.

Chapman Capitol Consulting will use their expertise and influence at Capitol Hill to obtain an end result for their new client undoubtedly. National Issues still hanging out that immediately effect the Trucking Industry and may be on the agenda of the lobby group are:

I've got mixed feelings about OOIDA, I've been a member for about 5 yrs, and yes they do fight for us. But, I've also seen them not do much, there have been several battles here in Colorado that OOIDA hasn't done much to help out. The #### in '07 over the tougher chain law, there was no rep. from OOIDA there to testify and no we have restrictions that actually going to get even tougher in the future. The same with the states decision to close a couple of rest areas.

The I-25 corridor is severly limited for truck parking, they recently permanently closed two rest areas that were full every night. Admittedly there were other safety issues involved as well, but they closed these area and are going to next year demolish them and turn them into chain up/down areas. The problem is there was not enough truck parking to brgin with and now there are 40 less spots. The state has begun a crack down on HOS in this area as a result and issued at least 100 shutdown orders at the Monument POE becuase drivers had no place to stop.

When I first heard about this in March, I advised Colorado Motor Carrier Assoc. (which is the biggest joke on the planet) and OOIDA. I've since talked to people in the Highway Dept. who are involved in this project, they advised they met with reps. from CMCA but never heard from OOIDA.

OOida has helped me once when i asked them about truck purchasing, truck insurance and such. Each driver has there own opinion about OOida, good bad and downright fugly sides. OOida, ATA, even the U.S. D.O.T. has some gray areas that really need to be improved, not every organization is perfect.
