Gonna put my .02 worth in here about OOIDA. First off any driver or o/o that supports the ATA or sends them $ needs their head examined. If the FMCSA said trucks were to drive off into the ocean the ATA would agree with them. The ATA is nothing but a lobbyist organization plain and simple. Anyone who thinks they care about the driver needs their head examined period. I am retired now but I will tell you this, the ATA is part of the problem in D.C. not a part of the solution. I belonged to OOIDA when I was driving and I urge anyone to send the $45.00 yearly membership. They may not address your individual problems but they will do their best for the drivers in the industry. That's a helluva lot more than the ATA will do. JMO

I joined in OOIDA in '93 after they busted up the Tennesse Nazi's, they have my membership for that, and they do so much more. I've humped furniture with one of their board members, and loaded freight on another's trailer when I did warehouse work for a while. These are real truck drivers that formed and manage this organization, not desk jockeys chasing the almighty dollar.

Could I hazard a guess that the advice they gave you was to use OOIDA financing for your purchase, OOIDA insurance and permitting services afterwards?

The #### in '07 over the tougher chain law, there was no rep. from OOIDA there to testify and no we have restrictions that actually going to get even tougher in the future. The same with the states decision to close a couple of rest areas.

The I-25 corridor is severly limited for truck parking, they recently permanently closed two rest areas that were full every night. Admittedly there were other safety issues involved as well, but they closed these area and are going to next year demolish them and turn them into chain up/down areas. The problem is there was not enough truck parking to brgin with and now there are 40 less spots. The state has begun a crack down on HOS in this area as a result and issued at least 100 shutdown orders at the Monument POE becuase drivers had no place to stop.

When I first heard about this in March, I advised Colorado Motor Carrier Assoc. (which is the biggest joke on the planet) and OOIDA. I've since talked to people in the Highway Dept. who are involved in this project, they advised they met with reps. from CMCA but never heard from OOIDA.

Just curious, what is OOIDA suppose to do about rest stops closing. In my State the are talked about closing rest stops because it's a way to cut the State budget. OOIDA is not going to win that battle. State's are trimming budgets anywhere they can, hell I'm taking a salary reduction and I'm in a union and nothing can be done about it. Either we take a salary reduction or the will fire people to make the neccesary cuts.

As i stated, NOT all organizations are PERFECT. They gave me advice on what to do and where to go, it was up to me to read and understand everything BEFORE i sign my name on the dotted line.

I have been a member of ooida for yrs. I have called at different times to get help. The company I worked for violated the contract, and cheated me out of money. There answer was to me find another company. This has been their attitude the entire time I have been a member.
The Federal Lease Laws are not enforced. How nice it would be to have some organization that would enforce the laws that are there. Once the laws start being enforced, and companies being fined huge amounts of money, we would not have to complain about any company. All a driver wants is to be paid what they have coming, to be treated fairly, and not be lied to.
Enforce the laws that are on the books!!!!!
I am going to let my membership to ooida expire. They are a waste of my time and money!!!

I find it very hard to believe that any OOIDA employee would tell someone "find another company". OOIDA has always stood up for the Owner Operator and I know they are lobbying hard for the powers to be to enforce the laws. I do believe in the near future you will see great strides in the areas of lumping law enforcement and detention time.
If you signed a half ##### lease is that OOIDA's fault - did you fax it to them and let them look at it. They have saved the a**es of a lot of Owner Operator's who almost signed away years of their lives due to considering signing horrible lend lease contracts.
It's hard for them to do anything if you didn't utilize them before you were put in a bad situation. If you utilize their services you will always come out on top if you don't check out your broker, shipper etc. and get burned again is that OOIDA's fault.
When there is something reasonable that can be done for the Owner Operator it will done. They have went after plenty of predatory companies for violating lease laws and who has this benefited, not OOIDA but the victim and future Owner Operators who get involved with these companies.

I really don't care how hard it is for you to believe that ooida told me "several" times to find another company to lease on with. I had called several times to see if they would go after this company. My partner has also called several times, and we both got the same thing. I suggest you find another company.
Like I said my member ship along with my partners will be expiring soon, we will not give them anymore money.
I feel ooida is no better then the ATA.
